We stayed here 2-9 October ad it was a good holiday. We arrived about 10pm and were greeted with drinks and they kept a small amount of food back for us which was a nice touch. Our room was a superior and was really lovely and had a sea view. the food was amazing for saying it was all inclusive, they also had a Chinese restaurant and an Italian but to be honest they aren't great - not a lot to choose from and it is like dining at a school canteen :-)

Don't try and complain about people bagging sunbeds at the break of dawn .... The only way to get round the problems with the pool is to join in. For the first couple of days we stayed round the very crowded and picked in pool area by getting up at the break of dawn and chucking our towels down. There were hardly any sunbeds free by the time we finished breakfast at 1030 so be warned. It was rarely quiet round the pool as there were screaming kids and groups of annoying lager-laced adults messing around. Mainly Brits who have got greedy with the all inclusive beverages!! The sunbeds are also jammed in right next to one another so it's not a relaxing time round the pool. They need a kids pool at this hotel... we were fed but had to laugh at the mums or Dads screaming at the top of their lungs "do you want to wee Charlie, Charlie don't do that are you sure you don't want to wee?!?" Blimey ...... Someone please melt off my ears!

To add insult to injury when you are just nodding off round the pool you then get the Spanish girls that are part of the entertainment team hassling you to get in the water and do aerobics or get up and make cocktails at the bar... And they DO NOT leave you alone. Even at night if you go in and watch the entertainment they are hassling you again to get up and dance - if I wanted to dance I would, if I wanted to do bloody aqua aerobics I would....!!!

So we escaped to the beach for the rest our our 7 day stay as it was quieter and is only a 5 min walk from the hotel - absolutely zero hassle, quieter and a gorgeous sea breeze. By the end of our stay the beach got busier with some of the other folks looking for a quieter life.

The accommodation I cannot fault and the cleanliness was a def 10 but if you went to the Maldives and had a 5 star hotel then went here you see a massive difference!! The only other thing that is a tad depressing is how long it takes to get a drink at night in the bar - I think the most time we waited in the queue for a drink was 30 minutes. A tip for anyone who is going make sure in the evening you sit in the wicker chairs opposite the doors of the bar under the canopy.... That way the waiters come out to you and you get your drinks in 15 minutes and no longer :-D

All in all its a good hotel .... Or an ok hotel but don't expect a whole lot of luxury because you just won't get that here!

I just came home after spending a week-end at this hotel with my family and I am impressed. The resort is big, 256 rooms, but seems even bigger due to it´s different areas. They have a family area with three pool areas nearby depending on age of children, the vigilance you want to keep, if you want mini-club etc. In all I think there is five pool areas to choose from and if you´re there without kids you can surely find a spot to relax too. If you have half board you can choose from a great buffet, an Italian and an oriental restaurant. The buffet is of good quality and variety but the two nights I tried it it repeated itself quite a bit. The staff is very nice in all areas of service.
The family rooms are big, silent, clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is going to Lanzarote. Two small things to improve, though, the TV sets are small and old, I haven´t seen a 4:3 TV in a 4 or five star hotel in years. And internet is not free in the rooms, only in the reception. A bit strange in this decade. These are small details, all in all it´s a great hotel, especially for the price.

rooms were very spacious and clean, food was varied and very well prepared, overall a very pleasant hotel.one concern was the broken glass on the floor in the entertainment bar, this bar was used for the childrens disco etc ,if i was being really picky i would say that the hotel is under staffed in termain bar at night.

We stayed at this hotel from 23/09 for a week to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. Following a 3 hour flight delay, we arrived at the Gran Castillo just before midnight, to be greeted by the Bellboy collecting the cases from the bus and straight into a stunning reception area. Friendly staff and a speedy check-in even at this late hour - a wonderful welcome. Welcome envelope was a great touch, with two room cards (thank God, I always forget the card!), a free spa voucher for us both and a map of the complex (yes it's big, they have golf buggies for the rooms further away).

We were taken to the room, 2235, which we were told had the best view in the hotel and wow it was true - a huge balcony with a sea view to the front and pool to the side. The room was stunning, bathroom had a corner jacuzzi bath and over bath shower with two sinks, separate toilet and separate shower - we were confused as we couldn't find coat hangers, only to spot a separate dressing room - more like a suite than a room! There was a cold buffet laid on as we'd missed our evening meal and having had this before, we expected a plated-up salad - this was all fresh, help yourself from the counters and tasted fabulous - we had high expectations for the week.

Next morning, we opened the balcony doors to an evening better view - Fuerteventura in the distance and a spotlessly clean pool area. Expectations for breakfast were more than met with a bigger food selection that we have ever seen before - omelettes by Elizabeth and pancakes and fried eggs by Abdul (sorry if I've spelt this wrong) were outstanding and the cereals, cheeses, yoghurts and English breakfasts made it a very filling meal. All food at this hotel was outstanding; I don't eat meat and had fish I've never even heard of before, all tasting very fresh and wonderfully cooked.

Evening meals were stunning, gents remember long trousers as you won't be allowed in with shorts on. The Italian restuarant, Portafino, is beautiful and caters for all tastes - plain pizzas to seafood pastas, an amazing array of desserts (the chocolate mousse is to die for) and super service.

People have previously complained about drinks service in the evenings. We didn't find this a problem, either get a couple of drinks each if you queue or there are always a number of waiters around who will fetch them for you - they serve a few tables at a time so bear with them. The hotel is obviously listening to comments on here and doing their best to rectify problems.

The manager was around all the time and was happy to talk and actually asked for comments for problems they could fix there and then - but there weren't any!

The staff are incredible hardworking and nothing is too much for them to help you with - they made our stay perfect.

The animation team at this hotel - well, I have never seen a team work so hard - they put on shows (we saw Mama Mia and We Will Rock You) and they're such a friendly team, always saying hi and hope you enjoyed the show at the end of the night and approachable during the day - amazing as they start at 10am and finish at 1-2am, they must be shattered but never show it!

The stroll to the Rubicon Marina has to be done, about 20 minutes and all in the sunshine, a blissful way to start the tan. The views from the marina are stunning, gorgeous clear sea and again, Fuerteventura in the distance. The little shops are beautiful and the craft market on Wednesdays and Saturdays is huge - even my husband enjoyed walking round it, not a common thing!

We took a ferry trip to Fuerteventura for 23 euros each (walk away from the harbour and you find the beautiful Corallejo) and a half day trip to Timanfaya at 20 euros each, recommend booking these through Helen at Tourist Ticket in the Marina - lovely lady and very honest about the best things to do (recommended we didn't do the full day Timanfaya excursion as it would be a waste of money with me not eating meat, even though it was an extra 30 euros each).

All in all, we cannot fault this hotel or anyone who works in it. Thank you for a very special wedding anniversary and we hope to see you all again soon.

Room Tip: Ask for the block with 2235 in it - wonderful views of Fuerteventura and the sea

We have just returned from a wonderful relaxing family break in late September for 10 days with a 6 and 2 year old and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Travelling with kids you need things to be easy, this certainly was. The welcome and check in was a breeze, bags (and us) delivered to the room with no fuss and a welcome drink for all. The room was in the 5400 block, high standard finish, huge and clean (with mini fridge).

There has to be a particular mention of Alex who worked tirelessly in the kids club, keeping our son and many others occupied for large parts of the day with games and crafts and still had the energy to run a brilliant mini-disco in the evening.

Overall:- I would say 95% of the staff were fantastic, they seem to work non-stop but are still (mostly) lovely. I read the reviews and it really depends what you want, the complex, pools, rooms and entertainment for the kids - excellent.

Entertainment for the adults ok, the food is generally good, but there really is something for everyone, the tables sometimes take time to be cleared and there is a bit of a wait for the bars in the evening.

I have stayed in a number of other 5* holiday hotels. Is this 5* ? Maybe not but its a good 4*, we came away feeling we had a lot of holiday for the money and would happily recommend.
