We just had one week with our 6 and 9 year olds. They loved it the Portuguese animation guy Ramses really made everyone laugh great spirit and thoughtful. I talked with many of the staff and lots praise the management and have been their since the opening 5/6 years ago.

Food was good the Italian is the best the Chinese could do with a new chef.

Pools were fab, kids loved the freedom the property is excellent. The entertainment is always hard to get used to as a 40 year old dad doing the waka waka but they worked hard to entertain a mixed audience.

One brilliant thing was the class of people as a good mix that makes a place. We met so many friends Max my son was crying when he left he is 6 my daughter was distraught leaving.

The staff and the hotel are a credit to the Dream group.

I strongly recommend this place and if you want a relaxing holiday with peace and quiet go to the front pool and buy noise cancelling bose headphones this is a fun place to be with a family.

Ramsey you rock Muito Obrigado Terry Elaine Lotte & Max x

This hotel is a good 4 star in my opinion, not good enough to be a 5 star. Dreadful evening entertainment. and my room was cold and very dark, because of two very large palm trees blocking the view and sunlight on the varanda. Food and service excellent in the restaurant. Beautiful part of the coastline in Playa Blanca, If you enjoy walking.

It is a 5 star hotel with 4 star facilities (only two thematic restaurants: an italian and the other asian cuisine). We think that the extra star comes from the large number of suites and double rooms. Very nice swimming pools, and typical architecture, with little to lose compared with the luxurious Princesa Yaiza. The hotel is located in a very quiet area, far away from Playa Blanca (about 30-45 min to reach the shopping area on foot). If you want to visit the nice promenade in Playa Blanca, with nice restaurants and shops, it is advisable to rent a car or take a taxi (normally 3 to 4 € fee for each ride).

Had a relaxing week at Dream Gran Castillo, dec 4th - 11th 2011, first impressions were good , greeted at reception enjoyed a free glass of cava then escorted to our accomodation. We booked a junior suite and were very pleasantly suprised on the luxury of it, a large lounge area, large separate bedroom, walk in wardrobe, bathroom with separate power jet showwer, full jacuzzi bath, twin sinks and seperate toilet. Outside the apartment was reached by sliding doors from either lounge or bedroom, very spacious with seperate table/chairs + sun loungers, beautiful view over to Fuertaventura, constantly in sun from dawn to dusk!
Have stopped at a few all inclusive hotels and the food we found was very good not at all bland as described by others, (spanish eat dry cured smoked streaky bacon so it has fat in it!), local drinks are ok the red house wine was particulary good, service in the restaurants was good all staff being very helpful, there was a eastern food restaurant on site aswell, more Thai than Cantonese but worth a meal. Down side for the hotel was the bar service at times not sufficiently staffed, the bar people worked hard but at times seemed a little stressed, entertainment was not the best but we did enjoy a couple of shows, theres a sports bar on site so was handy for a different atmosphere.
All in all we had a most enjoyable week in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, were even suprised to fing a bottle of cava in the room with 2 glasses on my birthday! ok not the best drink in the world but the thought was nice!
If using a hire car the hotel also offers private secure parking under the hotel thro a door activated by your room card (ask reception to activate this),
The hotel , pools etc were spotlessly clean, all staff from cleaners to reception were helpful at all times, we can apprieciate that this time of year was not the busiest so maybe not so fully staffed, but we are certaintly going back to this hotel in the future when next at lanzarote, would consider it 5 star if you remember this is an all inclusive holiday accomodation not Park Lane!
The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Playa Blanca a 20min walk along the seafront prom or head the other way and just a short walk to the beautiful beaches at Papagayo.

Room Tip: the extra paid for the junior suite was well worth it!

I agree with the previous reviews, the hotel was of a very high quality, and the staff could not do enough for you. We also did the all inclusive option and never needed to have the same meal twice. Being November, there was some occasional cloud cover, but this only helped enhance the fantastic sunsets each night. The entertainment was a little ‘cabaret’ for my tastes, but the performers worked hard to put on a show, as well as working on site during the day.
Exiting the hotel to the right provides a pleasant clifftop 30 minute walk to Playa Blanca, while turning left around the perimeter of the hotel takes you to some pleasant sandy beaches
Being a Brit, I would have liked to have had tea making facilities in the room, as otherwise you have to wait until going down to breakfast. Our only other gripe, which was nothing to do with the hotel, was that we had booked a excursion to visit Timanfaya with a company in Playa Blanca called Last Minute Travel, who gave us explicit instructions of where to catch the coach, only for us to be left standing for an hour in the mid-day sun. Despite two calls to the office, and assurances that ‘someone’ was coming to pick us up we eventually had to catch a local bus to Playa Blanca to argue our case for a refund. I would advise not using this company!
Other than that, we had a fantastic week and would definitely recommend Hotel-Gran-Castillo.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the children's pool, very little noise, and close to restaurant for breakfas...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Like a grand castle which majestically dominates the seascape of the AtlanticOcean and its islands, the magnificent GRAN CASTILLO TAGORO is erected in the charming area of Playa Blanca, in the south of the volcanic isle par excellence: Lanzarote. With the conviction that elegance and comfort should come naturally, this Hotel is a tribute to 16th century Canary history and colonial architecture, inspired by the "Castle of San José" and the typical landscape of the island, blending in with the environment. The building is divided into different zones which maintain their colonial style, where the white facades and volcanic stone contrast with the backdrop of the deep blue ocean. A charming interior courtyard of Arab inspiration bathes the reception area with light, and the contemporary décor and pale colours create a warm and very elegant atmosphere. GRAN CASTILLO TAGORO pampers every detail of the rooms and suites, which have breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding scenery. They are decorated in a contemporary style, with marine touches, light-coloured wood and pale colours, creating a pleasant atmosphere full of light. The discerning selection of restaurants and cuisines serve Canary, national and international specialities. There are conference rooms featuring spearhead technology, and various outdoor zones for events of different kinds. The "Vitanova SPA" thalassotherapy centre provides the benefits of thermal seawater, and specific treatments for the body and soul. The Hotel features a wide range of facilities and services. ... more   less
