We have just returned from the Dream Gran Castillo, our room was fantastic we had booked a Junior Suite Room with sea view but when we got there we were given a Senior Suite it was fabulous we had the most beautiful view over the sea and a huge balcony with two sun beds as well, it also had a hot tub on the balcony which was terrific to. The food was great though sometimes a little cold for me but it was not a problem there were microwaves in the dining room and there was always a great choice , the waiters and waitresses were always very pleasant .The animation team work very hard and put on some very enjoyable show,s in the evening We will be returning to this hotel again and i have recomended it to friends also it is a bit away from Playa Blanca but what a lovely walk way there is along the coast in to RUBICON MARINA which takes about 20 min then a further 15 mins in to Playa Blanca which is a very nice little place with no touts begging you to drink in there bars which I dont like !!!

It was arguably the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I cannot understand why some people moan so much because there is very little to complain about! And I am not easy to please person! The staff was professional and their customer service skills were top class. On arrival we were offered a refreshing drink and although the restaurant was already finishing serving the lunch, we were still welcomed to eat before we even checked in.
Our room was beautiful and very clean, although one double bed instead of two singles would do. The bathroom was lovely with two sinks (for her and for him), bathtub and walk in shower. We had a hotel grounds view from our balcony which was pleasant.
The swimming pools were quite cold but during the hottest months they are probably very refreshing. We have never had a problem with finding free sun loungers although it may get busier in the high season.
The food is buffet style and is very good as for Lanzarote. We were all inclusive so we also had some snacks by the pool (also buffet style) including hot-dogs, hamburgers, fries, selection of salads, bread and desserts. Drinks were excellent and barmen very friendly, nothing was problem for them.
We used the spa only once and it was ok, although quite small. We also ordered breakfast to our room but would not recommend as it was cold and chewy when it arrived.
The hotel is in a very quiet location and there is no beach near the hotel. However it is possible to walk (20mins or more) to the Papagayo beach or take a taxi there or to Playa Dorada main beach in Playa Blanca, which is also very nice. We rented a car which could be kept in hotel’s secured car park therefore the location wasn’t the problem for us.
We thought this hotel was perfect and enjoyed our stay so much that we are planning to return in the near future!

Just back from Dream Gran Castillo, after reading the other reviews it sounded the place for me and my wife. We arrived late Saturday night after the evening meal service so had a plated meal waiting for us also had a glass of cava waiting which was nice. All staff friendly and helpful, rooms huge and very clean. We had groun floor room which opened onto the main pool area alos with sea view. We spent our time at the upper pool next to the spa area, you get to use the sister hotel for drinks as well which is handy. Its a 25min walk to the marina which has restaurants and bars and then a further 25mins into Playa Blanca itself where you will find more bars, shops and restaurants. This is our second time to Playa Blanca and would come back again. I would say if you fancy this hotel try it and make your own mind up, we find everything great staff, food, drinks, service etc etc etc. When you go one word you will here every morning form the grill is "Enjoy".

The hotel is very nice and the rooms are large, the beds are not very comfortable and not what I would expect of 5 star. The main pool area is very busy and the sun loungers were reserved every day. There is a pool outside the spa area which was a lot quieter and we were able to get loungers there late mornings without reserving. This is a bit away from the main pool and bar area. If you walk towards the other hotel on the complex there is a pool bar there which is a lot quieter and also has air conditioning. There is also another pool area with slides for kids and another general pool. There were lots of families and it isn't the place for a couples holiday. The breakfast is good with plenty of choice. There are drinks available and food available all day at the pool bars. We only ate one night in the hotel restaurant and for us it was like eating in a canteen. The food was OK but we ate out preferring more local restaurants with more atmosphere. Personal opinion I wouldn't go back but if you are looking for all inclusive and have kids then it is a good option.

This is not a British standard 5* hotel, so if you don't expect that then you won't be disappointed. The reception staff and porter were friendly on arrival. The rooms are lovely, though our view from the balcony of skips was slightly disappointing. The grounds are nice, the kids pool is too cold for little ones despite the very hot weather (my daughter was not impressed), but the food is shocking. Supposedly hot food was luke warm, some even stone cold, by the time you got back to table. Hot food should not go cold in the space of 30 seconds. Third morning I got croissants, some cold meats and cheese; sat at the table and thought "what is that smell?" - turned out to be the rancid, gone off meat. People on the table next to me obviously had picked up the same and went and complained. Needless to say we didn't eat at the hotel again. One evening we were waiting for a taxi and overheard two couples saying they'd never stay there again, and how one of them had returned to their room one day to find their door had been left open after housekeeping had been. Not acceptable, especially if the hotel says it is not responsible for items you leave in your room. If I went back to Playa Blanca I would stay at Princess Yaiza without shadow of a doubt and I definitely wouldn't go All Inclusive anywhere ever again.

We decided to stay at this hotel with an open mind after reading the mixed reviews on here. When we first arrived the staff on the desk and valet guy was very friendly and helped us with our hire car and luggage. Whilst we was at the recption desk we was offered champagne but we was so thirsty we opted for a nice orange juice instead which was delish.

As we was checking in the guy at reception had told me that our room was upgraded from a junior suite to their best senior suite as it was our 1st wedding anniversary and he wanted it to be special which I thought was a great gesture.

The suite was definitely 5* very spacious with walkin wadrobe a jaquizzi bath tub and seperate shower in the bathroom. A large dinning area that goes into a large lounge. One of the biggest bedrooms I have ever stayed in. Outside has a grand balcany with two sun loungers and an extended balcany in more shade where you can walk out from the lounge area equipt with 2 relaxing chairs and table. The suite overlooked the spa area and pool from the front and overlooked other rooms with a view of the sea from the balcany outside the lounge and bedroom. at the back Unfortunately this is where the 5* experience ends.

We found some of the food limited and bland at times although most of the times it was hot. The first night we arrived however we was very hungry and was hoping we could eat straight away. We was told that we would have to wait until 11pm for cold snacks to be provided in the restaurant as food was not served at certain times. I think this was one of the downsides as with all inclusives you are usually able to eat any time of the day, but here you had to make sure you ate before food closes down. I have to add the guy that serves the eggs and meats in the morning was very friendly, polite and always greeted you with a smile on his face, he definitely added to the experience. ENJOY :)

The main pool areas was very crowded with families with kids and other areas with topless women (although that was not a problem for me but more my wife). We usually hung out at the pool by the spa area as it was close to our room and also very quiet. It was a little distant from the food area however, there is not the usual pool area service that you may find in other hotels where the staff take your order and deliver snacks and drinks. The spa itself is very nice and relaxing with different water massages available at a push of a button. Whilst we were there the steam room was unavailable but the other amenities were.

Overall this hotel is no frills apart from the suite we stayed in, so if your looking for a real 5* experience then this is definitely not for you, however if you are looking to relax and just enjoy yourself without having to worry about the star of a hotel then I'm sure you will enjoy your stay.

Like a grand castle which majestically dominates the seascape of the AtlanticOcean and its islands, the magnificent GRAN CASTILLO TAGORO is erected in the charming area of Playa Blanca, in the south of the volcanic isle par excellence: Lanzarote. With the conviction that elegance and comfort should come naturally, this Hotel is a tribute to 16th century Canary history and colonial architecture, inspired by the "Castle of San José" and the typical landscape of the island, blending in with the environment. The building is divided into different zones which maintain their colonial style, where the white facades and volcanic stone contrast with the backdrop of the deep blue ocean. A charming interior courtyard of Arab inspiration bathes the reception area with light, and the contemporary décor and pale colours create a warm and very elegant atmosphere. GRAN CASTILLO TAGORO pampers every detail of the rooms and suites, which have breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding scenery. They are decorated in a contemporary style, with marine touches, light-coloured wood and pale colours, creating a pleasant atmosphere full of light. The discerning selection of restaurants and cuisines serve Canary, national and international specialities. There are conference rooms featuring spearhead technology, and various outdoor zones for events of different kinds. The "Vitanova SPA" thalassotherapy centre provides the benefits of thermal seawater, and specific treatments for the body and soul. The Hotel features a wide range of facilities and services. ... more   less
