“Wonderful spa, average hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013

We spent three nights in the Hotel Termas. It was a special offer with breakfast as well as another meal (lunch or dinner), access to the spa treatments as well as to the swimming pool. I would definitely recommend the spa, which was wonderful in every respect. The personnel was friendly and attentive. The Archena mud massage is out of this world and helped me recover from a muscle contraction in my neck.
However, the hotel was average. The room was clean and the beds were reasonably comfortable. However, for a four-star hotel, I had expected some type of extra comfort. For example, there is no wi-fi access, comfortable chair, or view. The television is a tiny portable.
I would definitely return because of the spa. However, the next time, I would try one of the other two hotels in this complex.

Had read all the reviews and was not expecting the hotel to be fantastic. Even so it managed to disappoint.
After a 5 hour drive, we were told at reception we were getting one of the best rooms in the hotel! Unfortunately this involved climbing the second steep flight of stairs. There were no bathrobes in our room and it took over an hour to get them by which time we were too tired to go to the spa.
The room was a good size but was let down by having 2 single beds instead of the one double we had asked for. The single beds constantly separated so not quite the romantic, anniversary break we had hoped for and the atmosphere was further spoiled by the thick, rubber mattress cover on one of the beds! Housekeeping left a lot to be desired. A card in the room told us that as the hotel was 4*, that by law, the bed sheets should be changed every 2 days but that the hotel chose to change the sheets every 3 days. We were there 4 days and the sheets were not changed at all. Also the beds were not made properly with the sheets only being straightened and the bottom sheets left grubby. The bath towels in our room on arrival turned out to be dirty.
We had chosen hotel termas as it boasted a historical steam area in the basement [with no mention of fees] but we were told we could only access this by booking a treatment!
The spa is fantastic and I would highly recomend it. The setting is amazing. All of the staff were very pleasant. The hotel could be fabulous as much of the decor in the public areas is original and gives a sense of history and luxury but the bedrooms could do with a bit more of a luxury feel to the decor and bedding and the housekeeping service definitely needs to be improved.
We will go back to the spa but next time will just stay in the town.

We booked an overnight stay at the Termas, after being recommended to visit Balneario de Archena, during our week in Torrevieja. Whilst I would definitely recommend the spa, I would not recommend the hotel, after a series of let downs.

We booked a superior room with breakfast and spa access included and we were very much looking forward to serious relaxation and comfort. Forget that, on arrival, we checked in and were allocated a basic room opposite reception, the room was small, very dark, no air and on the main access road to the spa. NOT what we had booked! We went straight back to reception (they had taken my booking form from me at check in... I wonder why)? Luckily, I still had the confirmation of our booking on my iPhone ....superior room, hydro massage shower and balcony, spa access. We were told by the female receptionist that we did not book a superior room we had paid extra for spa access. Had to really stand my ground and argue that it stated on my booking "superior room" etc etc ...and point it out to her where it detailed this description. Eventually, she went to consult with a person out in the back office and it was agreed we did have that type of room booking. No apology and we were told the room was not ready and had to wait two hours before we could have the key!

Stressful start to what we thought was going to be a chilled out 24 hours, escaping from the in-laws in Torrevieja!! When we did get the room, yes, it was bigger, balcony, river view, hydro shower invented circa 1971! Added extra of a long thick black hair in the toilet, clump of same black hairs in the shower tray and a plastic cup of damp, extinguished cigarette butts on the balcony. Needless to say we ventured out pretty quick!

Casino bar, nice setting, mediocre, lukewarm tapas. Not bad price but not typical of good tapas.

Lovely grounds and views of the mountains, bit like being in the set of Cocoon, it being mostly retired folk wandering about in the free white robes enjoying the spa baths, which, are excellent and very relaxing ... Despite having to wear the ubiquitous swimming cap.

My advice, nice oasis to visit but just go and use the spa for the daily rate, the hotels are not comparable to the beautiful setting. Hotel breakfast was self service buffet with the usual stuff and coffee, tea on tap, no hot food, apart from the toast machine which takes an hour to do one slice.

We stayed for one night, room only. The room was modern and decorated nicely we a small balcony, enough space for one person to stand on, overlooking the river. We found the beds very comfortable but the air conditioning not very good. We couldn't open the window as the room would fill with small flies probably because we were close to the river, not sure if it would have been like that on the street side of the hotel. Bring some fly spray with you if you want to open the balcony door during the evening. Car parking is €5 a day but I don't think there is an alternative. We ate snacks and breakfast in the Casino bar which was good and reasonable. Had dinner in the Balneario restaurant which was satisfactory, but can be like a canteen when it is busy, very noisy. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to try and explain things to us. We prebooked the thermal spa when booking the hotel and it was well worth it, spent almost three hours in the spa area with short breaks in the outside garden. If you are going to Archena be sure and avail of the thermal spa.

Room Tip: There are two rooms with small terraces, these have a nice view and chairs. If you book a river side...

The Balneario de Archena is fun, whether you want the modern pools and saunas or the traditional treatments in the Galleria Termal. But the hotel is pretty marginal - our beds were hard, the hair dryer didn't work well, and the room, on the ground floor on the front of the hotel, was very noisy.

If you do go, go into Archena for dinner - the hotel restaurant food is marginal, the service surly, and the price expensive.

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the back of the hotel

We booked one night (Sunday) on the understanding that the spa was included in the package. The hotel was very nice, the room very comfortable.
Parking was not easy, being in an underground area some long way from the Hotel itself, and also cost 5 euros a day.
We were given unlimited access to the thermal pools, which were great, but rather busy on a Sunday with lots of Spanish families.
However our entrance did not include the other spa area with flotation pools etc, which was an extra 20 euros on a Sunday - so we gave that a miss.
Being Sunday the only place to eat on site was the restaurant in our hotel, which was overpriced at 24 euros a head (not including drinks), the food was indifferent and rather cold, and the service was very poor. Rarely in Spain have we experienced being rushed through the courses at such a speed. We felt it was like a school canteen.
The hotel also made a mistake with our booking, and we were not charged by the room until a week later when we received a phone call asking for credit card payment in retrospect - not terribly efficient!

Room Tip: Our room was very warm, so an upper floor room would have been better to open the windows

We were recommended to go to Balneario de Archena by some friends that live in Spain and we had a lovely 2 night break. However, when we were looking to book I emailed the hotel as they had some some spa inclusive offers on but I never even got a reply so I ended up booking the hotel through one of the internet companies which was fine. The hotel was good and quite friendly (in a Spanish kind of way) and rooms were clean with plenty of towels and bath robes. We were disappointed about the lack of info re treatments and what was on offer and it was only by chance we came upon the spa at the end after the pools which cost extra but was what we were looking for ... we had breakfast in the Casino bar and lunch in the Termalium restaurant which was excellent and good value. No English translations for anything but let's face it we were in Spain. Their marketing dept could do much better!!

Room Tip: Ask for a view looking out the back over the river - beautiful
