“Fantastic Relaxing Holiday”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

I was in the Canyamel Classic Hotel last week with my family. We had a very nice time there, helpful and friendly staff and perfect location for a relaxed holiday. Food was great, enough variety and freshly made. Rooms are basic, but most of the time we were round the pool and hardly been inside. Price we paid was fair enough for what we got. Wil recommend to family and friends.

Strange sort of place really. No idea how this gets 4 stars. Been to loads of four stars and this is definately the worst. It is however a decent three star although it has four star prices. The real saving grace was the pool which was very welcoming and cool as we had a really hot spell from 10 to 17 September 2011. Having siad that, the area round the pool wasn,t brushed or sprayed all week because the same bits of grit were there all week.

The food was pretty bad. Even though it leant toward German/Italian/Spanish food which we have no problem with - it was pretty repetative and cheap. Tables outside in the evening were impossible to be had at 7.30 pm and the heat inside (all day) in the dining room was almost unbearable. Never felt a bit of aircon all week. The open large windows weren't much of a god-send. Breakfast time was bearable though heatwise in dining room. Thank goodness for chips and melon. The bread was decent too.

The rooms were decidedly 3 star. (2 even). Plain boring and brick hard beds. The rooms were given a quick flick and never felt particularly clean. There was a smell of damp every time we came into the room and we had to "brace" ourselves for the entry! The toilet area smelt of wee in general.

All the included drinks were pretty cheap and nasty. From the fake martini to the rough wine. Only saving grace was the beer which was nice. (I drank shandy as the lemonade was good too. Liked the help yourself thing though...........saves queues.

Entertainment was 90% Italian or German. Fair enough as 90% of clientelle was German or Italian with a wee bit of eastern european mixed in with 4 British families/Couples. They tried hard and were very friendly. Bar staff and waitresses were very thin on the ground and overworked.

Canyamel itself was extremely quiet which suits us but not our twenty odd year old daughters. We hired a car and did a lot of sightseeing which is what we usually do anyway. Especially in Majorca as its so easy to get around and is beautlful.

We all had a dicky tum at some time or another which you don't expect in Spain nowadays although this was the "norm" years ago. Still we managed to have a relaxing holiday, poolside was good.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view. Might catch a glimpse of the sea

Hotel needs a total update, poor quality soft furnishings, uncomfortable hard beds, bland tasteless food, no service given. It didnt feel like a Hotel more like a hostel feel extremely cross as it wasnt a cheap week .Nothing positive to say about the hotel. When are the star ratings going to give a more accurate and true picture of the standard of accommadation, further down the road from this hotel was a very slinky looking 4**** Hotel, the Canyamel is definetly NOT!! To add insult to injury the sun loungers on the private beach (rather, a small piece of scrub land with some sand on top of it )were padlocked to the beach umbrella and an extra 6 euros pp per day was charged to sit on them needless to say no one used them !!

The hotell is situated in a great place. Canyamel is a relaxing, small and quiet vacation- spot. The area around is also beautiful. The hotel is indeed 50 meters from the beach, but you can not go swimming at this part of the beach, for that you have to walk maybe 200 meters more.
The hotel has a low standard. The beds were hard to sleep on, and the furniture old. The food was not at all spanish, and also not very good. Pretty much the same every day. Kind of german food if you ask me. At breakfast it is not possible to get juice, only something from a machine that taste like sugary limonade. Yuk. All drinks are served from machines. Not worth what it costs!

My wife and I took a 1 week holiday with our 1 Yr old son to this hotel in Aug. Overall we had a good holiday but there are some realities that anyone thinking of going to this hotel should know first. As this hotel is predominately German & Italian we were expecting a level of cleanliness & service above and beyond normal to maintain their guests high expectations, we were left disappointed!

I would like to say that my family is well traveled throughout the world and have lots of experience to compare this hotel too! We're also nice & decent people.

Firstly the Hotel is in need of a refurbishment throughout and the cleaners only clean what is in view. You notice small areas such as the seal around the toilet base where the mop doesn't clean, also under the taps, on the wardrobes & under the bed were all very dirty. Although It is fair to add that the pool and reception areas were very clean and well managed. We had our 1 yr old son with us and he loves to explore and test the safety of everything! I was very unhappy with the safety of the balcony. It was very thin floor to waist metal with big gaps in between. My son could have easily got his head through it!

The Food was all cooked to perfection and was of a high quality, it mainly catered for the German Guests' tastes which has some great dishes but it could cater for other comfort tastes as well. The restaurant was incredibly hot and the staff seemed to know nothing about why the air conditioning was not on, instead they simply opened a few windows which made it very hot & uncomfortable to eat dinner. Seating outside was available but of course you had to race the other guests for these seats! I did complain to the reception and was told they would do something about it - They did not.

That brings me on to the staff - The majority were all rude and made their best efforts to ignore you and give you as little attention as possible even when asking them questions. In an international Hotel of apparent 4* the staff and concierge should NOT behave in this manner.

One bizarre element of the hotel was the "All inclusive" bar. For the entire holiday including dinner and evening bars it was a self service bar. Initially this seems like a great idea but the reality is not. The bar simply has 1 Beer on tap, one red wine, one white wine. Various bottles of cheap spirits and a selection of coke fanta etc. There was a nescafe coffe machine, and slush puppy machine for the kids too. All of this is on top of the bar simply turned around so you help yourself from the customer side. Plastic cups only in the day & glass in the evening only and for sitting inside & of course everyone wants to sit outside. A week of drinking poor quality lager & wine out of plastic cups on what is supposed to be a luxury holiday does not give you the warm relaxing state of happiness you expect from your precious time off!

The Resort however was fantastic. Small with only a short street of shops but it has a fantastic beach and bay area. There are many large boats that come to this bay to anchor and enjoy the beauty spot. There are mansions settled into the hills over looking it and the water is crystal clear and warm! The beach is busy but not too busy and also has life guards on duty.

My advice? If you want a quiet beautiful resort with absolutely nothing to do in the evening then go to a different hotel in Canyamel otherwise keep looking. :-)

We have just returned from Canyamel. We stayed at Canyamel Classic Hotel for 7 nights with our 18-months old daughter. The food was great - lots to chose from, the all-inclusive drinks are of a good standard; the hotel is quiet and clean. Nice swimming pool and the hotel is located very close to a sandy beach that is very clean, the sea water is crystal - clear. There is a very children-friendly atmosphere at the hotel and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to enjoy a good quiet time. This hotel is very popular with German tourists, and we found them polite and did not have any problems at all. I would not recommend the resort for shopping or nightlife. This is a relatively small resort. Overall a great beach holiday.
