Travelled over on the 18th September with a group of six friends (which included two couples) and after staying further round 'the bay' the past two years, we did expect a slightly younger mix in the hotel due its closer location to San Antonio. This wasn't really the case though, I'd say a mix of 1/3 18-30, 1/3 older couples and 1/3 families.. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.
Upon arriving at the hotel, we checked in and were given three rooms in close proximity on the first floor (despite requesting rooms on the 5th floor). When I questioned this, I was told it was due to the hotel being very busy and this was the only floor with three rooms available. We left it at that, and headed to unpack. Having previously stayed at the Rosamar hotel (around 10 years old), it was immediately apparent that the rooms were of a dated feel, with single-glazed balcony doors, small TV etc however they were all clean and everything worked including good A/C. Only real complaint about the hotel is an aspect of the rooms - very thin walls, noisy beds (make of that what you will) and an ill-fitting front door make for a regular 4am wake-up calls when the groups of inbetweeners venture back to the hotel after failed mate-finding attempts ;). Overall though for the rooms, good shower, reasonable bed and good A/C.
The hotel has two main pools - A smaller (salt water) one where the older clients tended to go, and the large freshwater pool which was excellent, with plenty of sun-loungers, chairs and tables as well as a large bar area with plenty of indoor seating. There was a second bar area which looked to be closed up - perhaps they use this in the busier (June-August) season? Since I mentioned the bar, I'll expand on that.. both the pool bar and main hotel bar serve a great range of drinks on the all-inclusive basis; San Miguel, Spirits, Wine, Cocktails, Soft drinks, fresh coffee and fruit juice, milkshakes.. you won't be disappointed here. Just watch those slippery poolside tiles as you strut back to your sun lounger! Bar staff were all polite and friendly - particularly Isabella who liked the embarrass us when ordering 'sex on the beach'! While I'm talking about the pool area, I'll mention the Control/Security guard - we were a young group and had no problem with him, and he often greeted us. Was great to see a hotel in this area employing such a person - you'll find no looky-looky men or persistent ticket sellers at the Bergantin's poolside!
Many nights we decided to take advantage of the all-inclusive drinks whilst sitting out at the poolside/entertainment area.. we found that the majority of the shows were watchable and a good laugh, and even got involved with one of them - the Hotels' 'animacion' entertainment team are brilliant, particularly David and Valentina!
On to the restaurant - I never made it up in time for breakfast once, so can't comment..but if it was of the same quality as lunch and dinner then you'll have no problems - We had several fussy eaters in our party and they never complained once about any of the meals - always plenty to choose from, lots of salads etc available and desserts. Not five-star dining but then again why would you expect it from a 3-star hotel? A well-appointed dining area with plenty of seating.
Overall, we had an excellent stay at the Bergantin and it's very obvious the staff are a real credit to the place; they seem to be very accommodating to the wide range of guests who are at the hotel. It's location is great, 15-20 minute walk into San Antonio, shops/bars within 2-3 minutes walk in San An Bay, couldn't ask for a better location in terms of just the right distance away from 'vibrant' San Antonio. If you're easily woken, demand a top floor room and take some earplugs just in case ;) then again, Ibiza isn't exactly known for peace and tranquillity.
All that's left to say is well done Bergantin, there's a few years left in the old girl yet and you'll most likely see us again!
