“Great location, loved Ibiza :o)”
Reviewed October 1, 2010

First trip to Ibiza - I loved it and would defiantly go back!! Didn’t know where was best to stay and so asked around and someone recommended Hotel Tropical. Location of hotel is great, just down the road from Ibiza Rocks hotel, a very short walk to the West End and a bit further to Cafe Del Mar and Mambo (which is a must!!). Small local shops all round which were great for stocking up on booze and snacks. We were really happy with the location :o)

When we first arrived our air con didn’t work. Asked the guy on reception and he just thought it was us not switching it on properly. There was a large fan on the wall which made a big difference. Next day again said about air con not working and they eventually brought an engineer out to fix it. Must admit it didn’t make that much difference but going in Sept it was not as hot and so was bearable. Fridge in room was a good size, room was fine 2 single beds and a sofa and a good size balcony.

Stayed on a B&B basis and breakfast was perfect for what we needed and open till 11.30am and so just made it :o)!! We found the hotel staff helpful as we did not know where to go etc and they were happy to show us. Local beach in San An is pretty dirty and so we made the bus trip to Bora Bora beach from the bus station just down the road. This breach was a lot more fun and much cleaner!! Went to the pool one day, great sun trap, clean and lively, but as previously mentioned hide your food / drink as this will get taken off you!!

We didn’t sleep too much and so hard to comment on the noise in the hotel. There were people coming and going but it was mainly the noise of the cleaners that woke us but we expected this and so it didn’t bother us. Great party atmosphere and people chatting over balconies etc, great place to start the night off. I would have no issues going back to this hotel and we are glad we stayed here by looking at some of the others around the area!!

i am 41 and a bit picky. this hotel was superb for us. amazing english breakfast and good choice of fruit, cereal, breads and cakes. top evening meal with varying themes. fridge in room for your own beer, wine and water etc.staff were very freindly. mega clean room and maids every day with new towels. two mins from west end. the only bad thing is the toaster is a bit slow! ps about the aircon issue it does work but not the best ive seen.

Comparing some of the previous comments about the Tropical Hotel to our experience, they made me wonder if they were about another hotel, as I thought we were looked after extremely well. From start to finish, it was a pleasure to stay there. I had emailed them as soon as we booked (end of March) to request a room with a balcony - definitely recommended. When we checked in, they did remember but the balcony room wasn't available until 12noon, but as we arrived around 5am (thanks in no part to the flight being delayed and transfer bus driver driving all around and us getting dropped off close to last, no problems the year before though), they gave us a room where we could rest up until it was ready - wasn't really expecting that. So that was nice. With the room ready, no complaints with it at all. Very clean, spacious enough (we booked a triple room), balcony as requested and a room with a view, of the pool area that is across the road. The only minus points were that the air con is off during the day (on during the night though), but there is a large fan that is enough to keep you cool and there was only five or six channels on the TV (only 1 in English, and the rest in German?!), but you are in Ibiza after all, so you're not really going to spend ALL DAY holed up in your room so not really an issue for us. There is internet in the lounge, not free but at €1 for 10mins etc a good way to get rid of your change / pass the time! We were half board, so that meant breakfast from 8am - 11am (which to be honest we were never going to get up in time for, especially when out the previous night!) and evening meal (8pm-10pm). On your first time in the dining room, you're greeted by a man who then assigns you to your table, which is yours for the duration of your stay. You'll still need to see the man every time as he checks your room number off every time you use it and asks if you want a drink with your meal - not free but at around €2 for each soft drink no big deal. The evening menu is varied with a theme every other day (Mexican, Chinese, English & Italian) rather than having the same thing every day and you can help yourself. We enjoyed it, and looked forward to it before a night on the town! As mentioned, the pool is across the road, with facilities for the gym as well. The road isn't too busy, and there is a security man outside who checks off that you're from the hotel. Didn't go there, as, well, I'm not the type for lounging by the pool - lol Location-wise, the Tropical Hotel is very close to the infamous West End. In fact only a couple of minutes walk from the top-end, meaning that you're only about 5 minutes walk or so from any of the main entertainment/restaurants etc in San Antonio. Close to a couple of shops as well (although found that the Spar at the bottom of the West End on the road to the left - as you walk up - to be the cheapest), as it's well worth stocking up on 'beverages' before a night out as most of the bars don't get busy until 11pm-12mid, a few cheeky drinks beforehand will set the mood for the night, and save you a packet (which you'll definitely need for the clubs!) Downside is that you have to check out by 12noon, and what with our flight being at 1am, I totally recommend asking if you can see if you can pay to have the room for that whole day instead of getting turfed out. Courtesy and manners get you everywhere! All in all, we had a very good stay, with the people behind the desk very friendly and, at least in our case, always willing to listen and help out, not that we had any problems though. If we're ever in San Antonio again, and chances are we will, we'll definitely think about staying there again.

Spent 4 days at this hotel and could not be more pleased with the value i got. Afterall your here to party in Ibiza. Being a single traveller this centrally poistioned hotel was great to get to the bars without having to fork out money for taxis and when off clubbing, your hae made friends at the Pool across form the hotel to split the fares each way.
MAde loads of new friends and staff were great help too. Remember its Ibiza, get out and party like you never have before.

if you're looking for a nice hotel with pleasant and helpful staff this is not the hotel for you. Yes the location of the hotel is quite central but to be fair when faced with the reality that you are returning to a room that is poorly equipt for the humid atmostphere that ibiza has to offer you would gladly opt for a hotel in a different location. When you pay for air-con you assume that this will be provided, yet hotel tropical seem to decide whether you will receive this service or not. yes you have access to the control of the temperature in your room but whether or not this actually functions properly is very doubtfull. the principal role of a hotel is to give appropriate accomodation for the price you have paid yet the tropical hotel seem to have misplaced some of the most important aspects of a hotel. Electricity is an important element of anyones modern day life...you can not rely on this hotel to provde you with the simple task of adequate electricity supply. We stayed at the hotel for 9 long nights, not being able to depend on the use of electricity is an endurance you will have to simply put up with. When returning to your room after a night out to discover no lights, no airconditioning and as the water is run by an electric pump we had no running water...is this what you expect from a hotel??? When brought to the attention of the staff including the manager their attitude was simply it was not their problem and there was nothing they could do!!! In conclusion from the 'night proter' aka csi wannabe scorering the halls by night waiting to find anything to complain about to the general lack of customer service i would regard this as the WORST hotel i have ever stayed in!!

I stayed at Tropical Hotel for 4 nights and it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. The room was quite smelly (like pipes) and with a cheap hotel quality. It was pretty noisy since neighbours came from partying all the time and they may be disturbing. However, if you are looking for partying and young people (mainly British), that's the place. The hotel is very close to all the pubs and bars in San Antony, near Café del Mar, near the Port and the restaurants, near the Bus Station and Eden and Es Paradis. If you want to party in the hotel before going out, you can talk and play your music. The swimming pool is quite nice and full of young people (I didn't see any children and only a couple of retired people). The cocktails in the swimming pool are good and not expensive and the products in the whole town are British (If you're from the UK you'll feel at home). The food in the restaurant is continental/British but nice. You can buy tickets for the clubs in the hotel (they are supposedly cheaper than at the door). The staff was very friendly. I lost my suitcase key and they helped me to open it and we asked them thousand questions about everything and they were pretty nice.
The hotel is nice but only for young people to party (not to relax or families). I wouldn't go back but not because of the hotel itself but for San Antony that is quite tacky.
