“3rd time at the marvell”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

me and hubby travelled 2nd to 9th of October fab flights with Thomas cook and quick transfer to san Antonio bay about 25 mins , we checked in to the marvell at 11 30am hotel staff marvellous as usual this was our 3rd time to the complex in the last few years so here is my honest review of the hotel, our room was basic but spotless as always there was plenty of room to hang clothes etc ,we had a sea view and nice balcony, pool area is fab massive pool but very deep, no need to run for sun beds as lots to go around ,nice little pool bar to get drinks served by Katie who was fab and worked hard, Enrique was the entertainer who worked day and night to keep everyone happy with games darts, pool, bingo, quizzes etc there was some entertaintment on different nights, david Vincent was great , parrot show etc the food in restaurant was fine breakfast was good so was lunch but I have to agree with previous review evening meal was not good, this let the marvell down a little, would we go back to the marvell yes because you can always eat out for a change ,we had a great pizza at moby dicks across the road , last san Antonio bay is great lots of things to do for all ages not just for the clubbers, our thanks on holiday go to Claire, martin, brian, and lynn we had a fab time hope you did to shell and dave

Room Tip: sea views are very nice the rooms at the front face shooters bar they can be noisey

Family holiday with three small children. We all had a great time. Special thanks to Enrique for keeping the kids amused in the afternoons. All the staff were brilliant and extremely helpful. Everyone was friendly and we met lots of nice people. We will certainly return in the future.

Room Tip: request sea view

Stayed from 28 September for 9 days bed and breakfast only. Reading some of the reviews before hand did put me off a bit, but no worries hotel was a bit outdated but who cares, room twin beds great shower very powerful hot water all the time, are room did look over shooters but it's closed few nights before we left as it was the end of the season. Pool great not to cold. No mad rush for sunbeds could always get one. We ate out every night plenty of choice. About a 40 min walk to San antioino there is a bus stop to the right of the hotel 1.65 euro one way number 2 and 6 or 10 euros in a taxi. Would recommend cafe de mar fab sun set, would good back again!!!!

We stayed for 2 weeks all inclusive, we had a sea view room on 2nd floor which I loved. The hotel is clean and tidy and yes a little bit dated but nothing that offended us too much. The cleaners came in everyday made our beds and changed our towels. The pool area is lovely, we had no problem getting a sunbed and spent many hours in the pool as we went with our son and daughter
(age 14&12)and they enjoyed every minute of their stay. The food is good but can be a little repetitive, the lunch choice was better than the evening choice in my opinion. We enjoyed the entertainment but it did start late and again repeated its self a little. I would not hesitate to stay here again all in all it's a lovely place :)
Things I would recommended, take the boat taxi to San Antonio and watch the sunset at cafe del Mar, it's beautiful. When leaving the hotel face the Chinese restaurant and go right, follow the road all the way to the end about 25 mins and you'll find a beach and bars, they are lovely especially at night. Things I would have liked ! Somewhere to wash clothes/undies it would have been handy especially for a 2 week stay. I would have liked to be able to eat outside especially at lunch time, eating 3x a day in the same restaurant felt a little repetitive. My husband would have liked a tv in the bar to watch football, we had to go across the street and pay for drinks when we had all inclusive drinks just 2 mins away
:-/ we had a lovely holiday and the hotel tick 8 out of 10 boxes, and I would go back 100%

Stayed here for a week which was good. Staff where very friendly and helpful. Bar waiters where pleasant and the pool area was great. The only complaint I would have was the food was quite cold sometimes but overall the food was good plenty to choose from.. The lady that served at the poolbar was always smiling and pleasant. . Maid service was excellent they work very hard.. overall would I go back yes I would.

I try to be as honest as possible with my reviews so here goes:

Decor & Rooms:
I would imagine in its day, the Marvell Club would have been a really nice, upmarket place. In terms of decor, it does look a little like they fell on hard times.
If you're one of those people who likes to live in their hotel room on holiday, stop being cheap and go for a higher rated hotel, as the rooms are looking tired.
They're servicable (with working air con- which can stay on if you use a loyalty-type card like Nectar or Tesco...) and clean which is about it as far as the rooms go. Our room (room 4) had a microwave and small kitchenette with tableware included. It had a small flatscreen tv which picked up cBeebies (fantastic for getting ready with small children!) We also had a small balcony area with a table and 2 chairs which didn't get used as it looked out onto a walled courtyard. The only gripe I had with this room was that on our first day, there was a substantial leak from the room above which meant that our room was flooded through the ceiling. The staff were brilliant and dealt with the problem swiftly and efficiently. That was the only problem we had.
The rooms were cleaned daily with a full towel change. Our rooms were always made up spotlessly and nothing ever looked as though it had been 'rifled through'.
The bathroom consisted of a shower/bath, bidet, toilet, sink and hairdryer. Beware though, the hot water is, indeed, VERY hot! Water pressure was excellent for the shower and there was always (no matter what time of day) hot water available.
Big downside to our room was that you could hear the nightly dose of karaoke from Shooters bar opposite. This usually went on until midnight but then it was pretty silent after that.
We paid a 33 euro charge for a room safe (of which we got 6 euros back at the end of our stay). I found this personally to be a lot cheaper than other places I have stayed with around 60 euros being the norm.

Food:
We stayed for 10 nights All Inclusive and we personally weren't disappointed. There was a large range of food available and something different most nights. The food was always cooked beautifully and was truly delicious. There will always be fussy eaters who will say negative things about the food- unless you're one of them, don't listen. To fussy eaters- I would question why you would stay in a foreign country at an All Inclusive hotel anyway...

Entertainment:
The entertainment programme was...interesting...bless him, Enrique did his best but was pretty much a one-man show. He tried his best, but it wasn't the greatest entertainment really. He did try a range of activities but they didn't seem well exectued (I imagine down to a lack of funding). The evening entertainment did consist of some outside entertainment but several of the shows were the same entertainers that we saw at a different hotel 2 years ago. Most of the shows also didn't start until after 10pm- a little late if you have little ones.

Staff:
This is where the hotel was far beyond a 3 star. Remember this people; a little Spanish goes a LONG way! The reception staff were friendly and super helpful. The bar staff (in particular Katy from the pool bar) were genuinely nice people who are, in fact, people and not robots there to serve (you'd be amazed at how many people treated them this way!).

Location:
For me, the hotel fell to pieces here. Thomas Cook led us to believe that it was a beachfront hotel. THIS IS NOT TRUE! We were largely restricted to staying by the pool as the nearest beach (and I use the term loosely) was the Playa Bella beach about a 10-15 minute walk away. There was a lovely little beach up at Port des Torrent, but that is about a 20 minute walk away. The famous Reggae beach was, again, in my opinion, rubbish! The beaches at both the Reggae and Playa Bella were dirty and rocky. The Playa Bella beach was full of glass and absolutely stank from the public toilet. The sea was rocky and full of seaweed, jellyfish and rubbish. Not ideal if you have children!
Other than that, there was lots of the usual nightlife for a Spanglish resort. The usual bars, clubs, Spars and tourist shops. Very little in terms of anything actually 'Ibizan'. There was the Gorilla Hippie Market on a Tuesday night and all day Sunday, but, to be honest, it wasn't brilliant, with only a few exhibitors.

I could go on for hours about the ins- and outs of the resort and holiday, but won't bore you any longer!

Basics: If you like a British Abroad holiday, and don't really like the beach, the Marvell Club is probably perfect for you.

If you like a beach, a bit more culture and not to hear karaoke every night of the week, please save yourself the heartache and stay somewhere else!

Tip: Check out Kumharas bar in the evening for some seriously cool (but expensive!) chill out time.
