Summary:
We stayed here (as one of a two-family party) in August 2013. Overall, we had an excellent holiday, but this was much more down to the resort than the apartments.
The resort is excellent, with loads to do and a fantastic beach. Our recommendation would be to find a different hotel / set of apartments in the resort, in the same sort of area. However, if you do choose these apartments, it’s not the end of the world as they are in a good location. But be warned, they don’t have air con, they are very dated, the pool isn’t very nice and the maid service is awful. 2/5 for hotel, 5/5 for resort.

Good points:
The apartments are in a really good location – ideal for all of the local bars / restaurants and ideal for the beach (within a couple of minutes stroll). The resort itself is excellent, with lots of bars, restaurants and an absolutely glorious beach. We were there in mid August, and the resort was extremely busy (lots of families, not lots of teenagers / yobs). Regarding the room, we had had two massive balconies which were both nice to sit out on.

Important Note:
We booked these apartments on the basis that they had air con (we had seen them advertised with air-conditioning). THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE – THESE APARTMENTS DO NOT HAVE AIR CON.

Bad points:
Initial impressions were of very scruffy, dated apartments with a lot of the furniture seemingly on it’s last legs. Our apartments were not ready on time, which was somewhat irritating.
The pool area also looked very dated, with some abandoned out buildings etc. The pool was often very dirty, but this may be down to the grass surroundings (seemingly a common Algarve feature). A lot of the sunbeds were broken and hence very uncomfortable to lay on. You can use the alternative pool at the Solmonte hotel just down the road which was a bit nicer, although their pool was also a bit mucky and a lot of their sunbeds were also broken.

The maid service was very poor – considering it was a self-catering apartment, the bins were very rarely emptied, and the bathroom was never cleaned for the entire fortnight. We complained about the lack of air-con, and to be fair they did give us a couple of fans.
As we had the balcony doors open during the night (due to the lack of air con), the location can be quite noisy through the night (traffic, youngsters returning from clubs).
The beds were the most uncomfortable beds of all time.
Regarding the self-catering facilities, although there was a decent fridge freezer provided, the cooker seemed unable to cook anything - it took ages to get anything cooked.

Recommended trips:
Usual highlights such as Slide and Splash, Zoomarine and usual boat trips / beach sports. However, would also recommend “www.outdoor-tours.com” – they have an excellent range of outdoor type trips. I did the downhill cycling / nature trip which was superb – would recommend this trip to anyone.

Recommended pubs / restaurants:
“Taffy’s bar and restaurant” (near the beach).
“Bacchus bar” (we ended up calling this the “Dog and Parrot” for obvious reasons).
“Oliver’s Pizzaria” (down the hill from Bacchus Bar).
“The Snug” Irish bar (free shots with first round of drinks – thoroughly recommend the Caramel Vodka!).

Room Tip: Pay a little bit extra and choose nicer apartments / hotel in the resort.

We stayed here for a week and was surprised to find them very central after reading some of the reviews. The apartment was clean and had a nice view although the pool area had very few sunbeds.Staff were nice and very helpful especially Rute who works at reception.
Good food down at the bar also.Would stay here again.

Went here for a cheap getaway break. The hotel itself is very basic but met our needs, as we only need a room for a base as we spent all day out, dont read into the bad reviews on here if u want to pay for luxury then look for 5 stars, if u want somewhere basic and cheap and a fab resort this is ideal. we didnt think much of the pool area so we used the sister hotel a short walk away called solmonte and the pool area was great for kids there, the resort of praia da roche is great and great beaches

I have to say I came onto trip advisor before my weeks holiday on the 30th June for the week, from the reviews on here I was expecting the worst of the worst and I have to say when I arrived to the hotel I was pleasantly surprised :0)
Yes it's not a 5 star resort but what you pay for you get your money's worth.!
Friendly staff., clean rooms the swimming pool was cleaned every morning.
Cheap bar food convenient shop on location, 2 minute walk the beach and main strip.
If your not superficial and just want a break away with your family and friends I would recommend here :0) There was 10 of us away for my hen and wee all had the best week ever.!
Thanks clube dos arcos

We stayed here in July 2013,
The building is old and could do with a general refurb.the staff are great, helpful and friendly.
The rooms are spotless but again could do with a general update.we got stuck in the lift for a while as we'll and would advice children to use the stairs as this would be really scary for them.
The location is great from an access to the stunning beaches, shops, pubs, clubs etc.the noise levels are awful and we really struggled to get any sleep at all.it seems busy at night for lorries ,cars and coaches and groups of very load drunks. etc .
There is a pool side bar called funnys.fab food, fresh, cheap and simple the owners husband is a singer called tony mouri and he made my holiday ,3 hours of him singing and playing guitar.fantastic night.
