“oriental was fab for us”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

We loved this hotel, it was clean and handy for everything, the beach, the shops and the restaurants, we could amble along at night looking for somewhere nice to eat, and we sat at the hotel's pool every day or walked from the hotel pool area through a gate which led to the beautiful sandy beach! Wish I was there now, loved the area and staff at hotel were polite and helpful. Not much to do in this kind of hotel at night though so if you are looking to be entertained, this hotel may not be the right choice for you but we gave it 9 out of 10.

We went on a holiday to Portugal at the beginning of May and spent 6 nights at Hotel Oriental.
We were allocated a spacious room number 07, that must have been recently renovated. We were able to admire see views from our balcony and we could also see the swimming pool from there. As it was the beginning of the season the water in it was still a bit too cold for us to have a swim. Apart from that everything was spotless. The food tasty and plenty of choice, the room clean (thanks to the one and only Maria) and the decor nice. The bed was huge and nicely firm.
The staff were friendly end helpful (we asked for an electric kettle and it was promptly delivered to our room).
We had the beautiful sandy beach on our doorsteps and the marina was nearby as well.
We would like to recommend a nice little restaurant almost opposite the hotel as well. The food was tasty and the prices very affordable.
We were really sorry when we had to go back to UK.

Room Tip: room with the view is worth the price

my husband and me, have just returned from a stay at this hotel. the lobby is very impressive with a small river with fountains coming from it and lots of foliage over the balconys,. there is also a glass lift to take you to your'e floor, and a huge glass light that is very wiered but clever in design .The reception staff are lovely and very helpful. on arrival to our room we where quite pleased it was clean and had a small kitchen it also had moorish designs to it,the only thing that was dissapointing was the very small balcony,it was taken up by the air con unit so you had a struggle to sit out on it. i also didnt like the bathroom it was dull and in need of decorating,i believe some of the rooms have been updated and have huge balconys with full sea view, however our room was an old one,but it was ok. the hotel is in a quiet area which was good as futher up in town it got very noisey and busy lots of hen partys went on, There are several little cafes nearby, the hotel resturant was ok but we didnt eat there so can't comment on the food, the bar was small but quite well kitted out however no service, there was not a barman in sight one of the waiters from the resturant used to pop over and serve if anyone was waiting, and my god you did have a long wait at times, also very expensive, they do not have a pool bar as the grounds are to small the view however is fantastic overlooking a beautiful beach.A walk in to town was about 15 min and you have everything there disco casino, bars, and resturants it is very busy but no trouble either.Along the beach there is several resturants all not bad they look like railway carridges, our favourite was mermaids fantastic huge prawns and fillet steak was gorgeouse,we ate there three times on our stay,oh i must tell you to get to the beach you go down the cliff from hotel via some steps 57 to be precise they are a bit wobbley but ok coming up them at night was a challenge but we had a tourch which you need as no lighting. This little hotel has 90 rooms, it is in a good spot and from what we saw, one of the best. We would go here again, but pay extra for full sea view and bigger balcony, it is no good for kids as nothing for them to do,but for adults it is peaceful and great views with all the other amenities not to far away,we went here with jet2 holidays and they where fantastic so if you fancy going book this hotel,as the others are very worn out looking.

Room Tip: book a full sea view.

firstly the good points, rooms spacious, clean with a balcony and sea view. staff all friendly and helpful.
now the bad, actually very bad, the hotel has 4 stars and serves the worst food we have ever had.
the buffet - salad starter good- hot food not hot - choice 1 meat,1 fish + pasta, rice, potato, veg. never any variation to these 6 choices ok the meat, fish, veg changed on a 3 day cycle.
boring not up to some 2 star hotels we have used.

Room Tip: choose B & B

stayed here with my mum for a girly week away.
Mum had a room on the 1st floor, whilst I was on the ground floor looking over the garden. We both had sea views, and large rooms with kitchen areas.
This hotel is very quirky, clean and welcoming.
Breakfast is a buffet style, I heard people complaining about the choice but there was hot breakfast, cereals, fruit, ham, cheese, yoghurts, juices croissants, breads and pastries..... dont really know what else they could have given us.
The pool was a little chilly but it was April, it was ok once you were in.
If you dont like steps then you will struggle getting to the beach - 60 steps
I would definitely be back

We have just stayed half board for 9 days this hotel was superb from the well appointed bedroom incredible large comfy bed and helpful and caring staff. Our spacious balcony had incredible views and everywhere was extremely clean. The hotel overlooks the beach and is ideal situated for a variety of superb walks along the cliffs or on the beech. The food was .plentiful and varied. We shall definitely return.

Room Tip: The right side of the hotel has the afternoon sun which we prefer.

I just stayed here with my wife for four days. The hotel is right on the beach with a beautiful pool set in quiet gardens. Our room was lovely with a very comfortable bed but it was the staff that made our short holiday. Friendly and enthusiastic. Will be back.

Room Tip: Our room was on the fourth floor with side sea views. For the price it was excellent.
