A lovely quiet time to visit this area, the beach was immaculate and such a pleasure walking the Boardwalk with nice temperatures, so many nice restaurants on the beach, very relaxing to enjoy a beer here.

First time in Portugal. We stayed at a lovely central hotel, but on the whole I thought Praia da Rocha was just ok.
The beach was amazing, but I found the rest to be very touristy catering for mainly British visitors, with a large selection of English and Irish Bars. There’s even a couple of Welsh bars, and if that’s what you are looking for you will have a great time, it’s just not for us.
Also, I think someone needs to get a hold on the graffiti. There is hardly a wall or spare bit of space without writing on it, which doesn’t look great at all. Old ladies offering drugs on the Main Street to anyone who wants any is quite bizarre!
So if you are looking for a mini Blackpool, Praia da Rocha will be right up your street.

This is one of the best beaches in the Are it is long and very wide so eanty of space. The area has a lovely shopping area and is not far from the harbour.
I would recommend this area I am coming back as I loved it so much.

perfect place for letting your loved pet run free and enjoy the waves. just drive down the dirt riad and park at the wooden fence, the sea is just behind it.

Beautiful sandy beach, almost triple width than in Poland and our beaches are also wide. Beautiful ocean, colder than the Mediterranean Sea but warmer than Baltic Sea. Seagulls wandering the beach almost like cats. Stunning cliffs towards Playa do Vau. Great place for beach walks. Amazing place.

Wednesday 10th October and we visited the popular beach, it was by far the largest beach that we visted along the southern coast of Portugal on the Atlantic Ocean.

Nearby are 2 smaller beaches Praia dos Tres Castelos beach and Careanos beach, quieter than their larger neighbour (both reviewed separately).

There is a viewing point on top of the cliff overlooking the beach, from the top there is a wonderful view along Praia de Rocha with the waves of the Atlantic Ocean crashing onto the golden sand.

Along the beach there is a wooden boardwalk with a number of bars and restaurants along it. There are loads of sunbeds and umbrellas available for hire along the beach, all a bit closer to each other, not much privacy.

There is plenty of room to spread out the beach mats and towels and enjoy the glorious sunshine and the atmosphere.

It was not very busy when we visited, as it was near the end of the summer season, can imagine it being very busy during the height of the season.

Nice place. And clean. Beware of drug dealers in the strip.
Beach is lovely. U do get hassled by people selling crap. Just say no. And ignore them.

Can't always guarantee the sunshine but the beach is exceptional and well looked after. The sea is not the warmest being the Atlantic but that doesn't appear to deter people. With Praia da Rocha being on top of the cliff getting to the beach can have its challenges. Many of the access points just have steps ( lots of them) but there are a few access areas step free. It would help if the local council signposted these to assist the less mobile. Walking is very easy both in the town and on the beach. The beach has a good boardwalk system which provides easy access to the beach restaurants. In the town the main strip is a bit touristy with the usual restaurant touts, fake bag sellers and unfortunately dealers in illegal substances which if not stopped will eventually deter people from going. Unfortunately most of the Algarve tourist destinations now have this problem. The resorts restaurants cater for all tastes but it is worth searching out the more typical Portugese restaurants in the back streets, as these are significantly better and cheaper too.
