“If I'd wanted to stay in Tuscany for good - I'd stay in Salvadonica!”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

This has been our number 4 or 5 stay in Salvadonica. We have been visiting the place in the last 3 years. Believe it or not – but there is never a doubt as to where we should be staying next time.
Location: the best one can imagine. Takes 20 minutes to get to it from Florence. Easy to find. The surroundings are simply amazing – you find yourself in a very picturesque and charming environment, surrounded by olive and grape yards, growing peacefully in the hills around the property.
Rooms: In the last year, we stayed basically in every room type of the property. My favorite choice is – the old stable with beautiful ceilings and stone walls.
Breakfast: a delicious selection of typical Tuscan products. My favorite one was scrambled eggs with sable and rosemary and of course the famous bruschettas!!!
The property has a swimming pool which is very well maintained by the staff of Salvadonica and one can observe the sunset immediately from there 
Staff: each and everyone has been always extremely attentive to us throughout these years. The big credit of course goes to the sisters Francesca and Beatrice – the owners of the property, who are there every day to address your needs and all possible requests (at times people can be very inventive indeed). Consuelo and Regis.
Makes me sad to see negative feedback about the place, knowing how much labor, energy and time the owners spend to maintain the property and spirit in its original state. People have no clue on what the real Tuscany is and should be and their expectations to have a 4-5 star service from a country-side property at a price they get in Salvadonica – are simply ridiculous. Not mentioning the additional coffee machine and standing in line to get a cup of coffee….try any 4 or 5 star hotel in the neighborhood at a cost of at least euro 450+ per night and stay away from this little gem

We stayed here for 4 nights. The location and vistas were magnificent. The staff, especially Helena and Consuella were extremely nice and helpful. Rooms were nice size but I agree with one of the other reviewers that there were a lot of bugs in the room. My kids had bites on them from either spiders or mosquitoe when they woke up in the morning. Beds were ok (pull out bed was not as comfortable as regular bed) and restaurant was very good. Breakfast in the morning was good and plenty to eat. Overall staff was very pleasant and helpful. The tennis courts, bocce courts were run down and the "fitness center" was a few machines outside overlooking the garden. Don't go to this place expecting a lot of recreational activity to keep you busy. If you want a quiet restful place with a beautiful view, this is a great place to go.

We loved everything about Salvadonica; the staff, the rooms with lovely views of the Tuscan hills, grapevines, olive trees, a perfect picture of Tuscany Breakfast was fresh and delicious and the dining room was very inviting for our first night, since we had been traveling for about eighteen hours. Salvadonica is situated in the great spot for visiting the town along the Chianti road and doing some wine tasting. It's a little difficult to find; the address is misleading. Make sure you have good directions.

Room Tip: We were two couples and stayed in two suites that had plenty of room and very good views.

We stayed 2 nights at this country side B&B.Took us a little while to drive and find the hotel and for some, a GPS in the car is recommended. Our TomTom GPS did not recognize the address and we had to key in the longitude and latitudes to find Salvadonica and head in that direction. There were some signs as we got nearer past the nearest town that would help you as you get nearer.

The hotel is sited in a scenic country side location admist rolling hills and vineyards. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful and made their best attempts to meet our needs
We stayed at the ground floor room and discovered it was the kitchen long before. You have to adjust expectations that this is not a city hotel but a country side lodging and set expectations accordingly.

A Jewel of this lodging has to be the restaurant. We interacted in depth with the staff and thoroughly enjoyed the service as well as the taste of the food which we found to be very good and fresh. We loved it so much that we dined there twice!

There is a supermarket named Coop in the nearby town that you can get groceries from and there is a petrol kiosk just next to the entrance of the driveway to the hotel.
Breakfast was good which we enjoyed.

I found this place on booking.com and thought it would be a perfect vacation for us based on the reviews,I booked a junior suite. Unfortunately something came up and we had to ask to move our stay up to a week and a half earlier then originally planned. I emailed the hotel to ask if they had a room to accomidate two adults and two small children for the earlier dates and they said they did even though it was a very busy time for them. I couldn't wait to arrive for our six night stay. When we arrived the property was just as I had pictured it, beautiful rolling hills with vineyards and olive trees. I went to check in and was taken to our room by one of the owners, The room was a converted stable, which was never lost on me that I was staying in a room made for animals, and I was immediately greeted by the smell of mold, which I am pretty sure the owner noticed as she told me to just leave the door to the room open when I went to get my bags. My husband came in and immediately commented on the smell also and we considered asking to leave. I had already asked the owner if all the rooms were booked for the week and she said they were completely full. The room had to be paid in full seven days prior to our stay, we did not want to loose our money and we had drove 10 hours over two days to get to this destination with two small children so we decided we would just go ahead and stick it out. So we just left the windows open the entire time to help with the smell but it was also cold out so it was either the smell or the cold. But the disappointment didn't end there. When we went to put away our clothing there was not enough dressers to put our clothing in, the top our table was not even attached to the legs so we had to be careful not to push it off while we were sitting at it, the information guide invited us to take out our own trash and that we could use "the wash tub out back" if we didn't want to use the laundry service. We had made reservations at their restaurant the first night and were greeted by a waiter who rudely told us that we only had reservations for two because that is how many people our room was ment to accomidate. The beds in the room were terrible, I slept poorly the entire time and couldn't wait to get home to my own bed, the mattresses were about 5 inches/ 10 cm thick and looked like they were fifty years old. When you looked up at the ceiling from our bed you could see the mold growing on it. And there were spider webs on the ceilings in pretty much every corner, a spider actually fell on my husband while he was asleep! Breakfast was disappointing, this region is suppose to have fabulous salami and they had none a breakfast only ham and terrible bread which pretty much no one ate, we went and got our own salami for breakfast at the local store as we ate in our room during breakfast because there weren't enough tables for the number of guest that were there that week. Also there was only one coffee machine which you had to stand in line to get to every morning (at good places they bring you a pitcher of coffee to your table) We were also kindly asked to eat in our room for dinner one night as the there weren't enough tables in the restaurant for the number of guest who reserved tables for dinner. Furthermore, we also had an infestation of ants one evening, my husband went to tell the staff at the desk and they sent him back with ant powder to sprinkle around. We pretty much tried to stay out of our "luxury villa" as much as possible. The only good thing about this place was the location, it was beautiful and close to travel to other destinations in the area. If you come here, which I don't recommend, make sure you don't get the stable room. I did complain to the staff about a few things and they seemed to be attentive but there was just too much wrong.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the stable room, maybe cooler in the summer but smells like mold. Fitness center w...

Dear Madam,

Please allow us to repond to your review particularly since we unfortunately have not been advised of your disappointments during your stay regarding some details.

The apartment that you lived in is one of the most distinctive ones as it is set in an old barn of the villa which still has a manger obviously completely renovated. Claiming that is smells of animals , which are no more present in the room for 50 years, is at least unlikely. At most, you will have smelled the clean scent present in the room since more that had just been cleaned.

We would like to point out that this year no deposit is required for reserving a room and that you, as well as the other guests,  pay for your stay the last day, when leaving, as specified on your booking documentation, still in your possession.

Every day the staff is present for maid service which covers recovery of garbage and any other needs including the request to have more hangers, toiletry products, pillows, etc. ..

A laundry service is available on demand. There are displays and information in each accomodation and in the common room.

We apologize to you that you did not find a table availbale for you and your family on the first night, in fact we always advise guests to book in advance since the restaurant, which is very much apreciated, has a very high attendance and we are confident that our waiter was as polite and kind as ever. We know that you anyway had the possibility to order dinner from our kitchen that you have enjoyed it in your room.

As for your personal opinion on the " Tuscan bread", we are short of words because we buy bread every morning freshly baked by our baker of trust, it still come hot on the buffet where you find home-made jams, fresh fruit saldas, typical Tuscan farm dairy, ham and cheese (if you had asked for salami we would have served it!), eggs, homemade cakes etc ...

There is no infestation of ants in the villa, but being that the Borgo is located in the countryside, it is likely that there are some. There are also fireflies, swallows and other animals that do not exist or survive in the city.

We hereby confirm that we have one coffee machine in the breakfast room and that sometimes guests wait for a minute to have their coffee (espresso, cappuccino, coffee, hot chocolate and latte macchiato) but we believe that the short delay may be an opportunity to say "good morning" to the neighbour at the table next to yours.

Every time you had the need to organize trips or to get any information  our staff took care of you and your well-being during your stay.

In conclusion we suppose that you have not appreciated and completely understood the philosophy of living your holiday immersed in culture and in close contact with the beauty of Chianti, the nature, and the peculiarity of the place as well as its originality.

Sincerely.

Beatrice, Francesca and the staff

I stayed here for 3 nights and was amazed by the beautiful private view from our room. Staff were great and
could not do enough for us. We had an early start on checkout day so would be too early for breakfast, so the lady at reception had a breakfast basket made for us to eat so we wouldnt miss breakfast - not something alot of places would do. Overall a beautiful place only matched by the friendly and helpful staff.

We recently spent 5 nights at Salvadonica and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Our room was on the upper level with a balcony overlooking the rolling Tuscan Hills. It was beautifully presented in an Italian country estate way, everything we need was there. The staff were attentive and tended to our every need including helping with driving itineraries and parking advice in towns. Breakfast was comprehensive, even down to small batches of herbed scrambled eggs regularly prepared by the morning chef, delicious. We loved our stay at Salvadonica and would definately return.
