“Not strictly a hotel review, but the food was so good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2011

Having spent a week here 3 years ago we decided to drop in to see if we could eat lunch on our way back to Pisa airport. The restaurant staff have changed..... There is a young chef being allowed to express himself...with ' fantasy' which should be translated as superb imagination! The smells , dishes of fellow diners, our lunch, all were amazing! We can't wait to go back , to work our way through the menu , for another holiday.

A wonderful location in the Tuscany Hills. Poggio Borgoni is run by the most gracious of hosts. The rooms are comfortable and elegant with breathtaking views. The restaurant is run by charming staff and a talented chef who makes the use of fresh local produce - delicious! I would highly recomment Poggio Borgoni. And it is only about half an hour drive from Florence

Poggio Borgoni is a really lovely place to stay if you want to see Tuscany without being stuck in a city centre hotel. The rooms are very well kept, the grounds are beautiful and it has an excellent pool. You get the feeling of staying in a private villa, but you don't have to cook and your room gets cleaned every day. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and professional and the food is very good indeed. Florence is 30 mins away by car and Siena a bit further to the South. We travelled with two small children and had a perfect time.

I can't speak highly enough of this place. We were in Tuscany for our wedding at a nearby castle and decided to have a dinner for around 40 of our wedding guests at the Relais the day before the wedding. We were expecting something simple and relaxed for a very reasonable €30 for a four course dinner including wine. What we got was much more than that - tables set out with white linen, flower bowls and candles - all overlooking the valley. We were beginning to think that we had chosen the wrong place for the actual wedding!

Of the hotel itself, it's close to the main road (not a main road by UK standards though) but we certainly didn't find this off-putting. I couldn't hear any traffic noise and the views are to die for at the Relais. The rooms were spacious and clean, have effective air-conditioning units and, in the suite we stayed in, there were even two TVs! (not that we watched them with such stunning scenery on offer).

The staff were so attentive - particularly Katia and Matteo who helped with our every need. Katia organising transport for me to the wedding and endless changing requests from my family who were also staying at the relais.

Having a dinner and lunch service on offer was also great. We found out from friends staying in nearby places that their hotels did not offer this and when you are not very close to a town centre it's really needed. In fact, family and friends staying elsewhere ended up coming to our hotel to use the facilities and have lunch because it was so much better than where they were staying.

The pool is big, with plenty of sun loungers (room Rosmarino is set away from the other rooms and has a patio where you come directly out onto the pool area so this is a very good place to stay!).

My advice is don't think about booking anywhere else if you are staying in San Casciano! We will be back.....

We stayed for three nights and had a wonderful time. The room was clean and had all the necesseties (incl. a/c). Upon our arrival, late in the evening we decided to have dinner at their restaurant - and we loved it so much that we ate there again on our last evening.

The place is located close to the autostrada between Firenze and Siena, which means that you have quick access to explore the region. This is also, hower, its only drawback... that you can hear some car noise from the road.

The staff were really friendly and helpful (pre-booked tickets for us at the Museums in Firenze) - and the breakfast was also very fresh with a good variety.

  • Liked — The scenery (and the pool!)
  • Disliked — Could hear the cars from the autostrada (even from a distance...)

What a wonderful, peaceful setting. The beauty of the surrounding countryside was so relaxing.....you do need a car to get around efficiently and there are many places to explore within an easy drive.

The rooms were very clean - cleaned daily - and the staff friendly and helpful. We ate dinner at the Osteria one night and it was quite tasty...they were able to provide with short notice, a birthday cake and champagne for a birthday celebration that same night.

The pool was nice and clean and we enjoyed just sitting out there relaxing.

Katia (reception) was a delight to speak with...She is very knowledgeable about the area and what to see and do.....

This was a fantastic place to stay. You do need a car though to really explore the area. Close to all of the Chianti towns and also close to Florence and Siena, this place is ideally situated. The entire staff is fantastic as well.
