“A Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2012

We arrived with our friends to find this charming B&B nestled in a beautiful valley surrounded by "Classico Chianti" vineyards. The view were majestic in this historically significant property. The breakfasts on the veranda were breathtaking with the views. The pool was very refreshing in the heat of the day. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. We spent 3 nights there and what really made it special was the owner, Simone, was ready to help at a moments notice. The restaurants he recommended, particularly the one 1 minute from the property turned out to be the best of our stay in Europe. I highly recommend spending a few days (or maybe a few weeks) in this beautiful little corner in Tuscany.

If you want a quiet relaxing retreat to recharge your batteries, this is the place to stay. Although a little difficult to find (Simone kindly drove out to meet us after we had found ourselves lost) and down a steep unmade track. The views from the terrace and rooms are outstanding and out of this world. The swimming pool was a welcome relief after a day in Florence and so relaxing. Breakfast is taken in the Italian sun on the terrace and was very substantial including both hot and continental breakfasts with plenty of coffee, juices, yoghurt and much more. We also sat there in the evening with a bottle of wine relaxing after our sightseeing listening to various birds and other animals calling to each other. The local town was lovely to visit and has a variety of restaurants , bars and pizzerias which were excellent and very reasonable. One tip is to make a note of where to turn off on your return if it is dark, as we went past for a few miles before we realised. Simone was very attentive and helpful. We have recommended La Fonte del Macchievelli to our friends. It is thanks to Trip Advisor that we found this gem and loved all the history of it in connection with Macchievelli.

My husband and I spent a wonderful 2 nights at La Fonte Del Machiavelli in May. It is located in a quiet spot overlooking Chianti country with all the vineyards, Cypress trees, rose bushes, etc. The Villa has a wonderful patio that is shady in the afternoon and allows you to enjoy a nice glass of wine (or beer) while you relax after a busy day in Florence or touring other Tuscan towns in the area. We picked this spot because of its close proximity to Florence. Simone, the owner, was helpful in showing us where we could safely park the car for free and hop a bus (#37) for a quick ride into Florence. No traffic or expensive parking to deal with. The one way bus ride, if ticket purchased from bus driver, cost 4 Euro for two. If you buy in a store, it costs 2.4 Euro for two. Bus takes you right to Santa Maria Novella Station, within a 5-10 minute walk of the Duomo. You can buy your return tickets at the visitor/information center where you disembark the bus. Bus runs every ¼ hour.
Simone provided a wonderful breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, ham and bacon. We had the Michelangelo Room that overlooked the valley. I saw the most incredible sun rise around 5:30. It was an orange/gold glow extending the entire length of the horizon. Magnificent!
There are several restaurants close by so you don’t have to drive far after sampling the wonderful food and wine of the area.

Room Tip: We were facing the east so great sunrises and view of valley.

This is the most beautiful place in Tuscany. Breath taking views, a helpful and friendly owner, good breakfast selection, especially on the terrace. You would need your own transport to get there, Firenze is about 15 min away. Go there you won't be sorry!

Simone is a fabulous host! He is warm and inviting and very helpful! The views of the countryside from the patio are absolutely beautiful ... vineyards, rolling hills, olive trees .. and absolute privacy all around. I watched the moonrise and the sunrise from the patio, watched the light changing on the distant hills, listened to the birds singing ... PERFECT.

The breakfast is lovely...eggs, bacon, ham, cereals, bread, rolls, butter, cheese, juices and fresh fruits, and as much coffee and tea as you can want served by hand by Simone himself, a very attentive host.

The surrounding gardens are beautiful!! The flowers and herbs are all around the patios and walkways, a lovely private retreat. The rooms have beautiful comforters and nice lighting and furnishings and are clean and comfortable and relaxing. Stayed three nights and wished we had time for more! I would definitely come back, and I would highly recommend this b&b!!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the patio overlook the view of the Chianti hillside and afford you the easy access to t...
