Agriturismo Vecchio Olivo
Reviewed December 2, 2013

My wife and I spent five nights at Agriturismo Vecchio Olivo the later part of October 2013, it was almost at the end of a thirty day tour of Italy. As it turned out we were glad we saved the best until last and was far beyond all our expectations.
After a phone call we were met at the Agriturismo's restaurant (Osteria Vecchio Olivo, where by the way, we enjoyed our best meal of the whole trip) by their representative Luca, who took us on a tour of the Agriturismo grounds, which were meticulously maintained by the staff, then to our farmhouse apartment. Luca was the perfect host, giving us all the information about what sites could be seen around the farm, where to shop for groceries, and he was never more then a phone call away for any assistance.
Our farmhouse apartment was the “Il Canario”, which was spotlessly clean, and we found very spacious. It had a good size kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher and a large table where we enjoyed many delicious home cooked meals. Next to that was a sitting area complete with satellite TV and a futon/love seat. The bedroom was large with a comfortable queen size bed, a good size wardrobe to hang you clothes and plenty of room to store your luggage. The bathroom was also a good size, considering the size of some Italian bathrooms, with plenty of room to shower and a washing machine.
The Agriturismo is spectacular. You are in the middle of a working farm with vineyards and olive trees all around. We even received a personal tour by Luca of the facility where they actually take the olives, crush them and make the most delicious olive oil anywhere.
The farmhouse is just a short distance to the town of “Montecarlo”. It is worth the walk up the hill and past all the olive groves to get to this medieval town with it's ancient walls, the castle the tower and it's small streets that wind through the town.
I know for sure we will be going back to Agriturismo Vecchio Olivo in the future. Such a beautiful place to just rest and relax and take in all the great views and certainly enjoy a few more meals at the Osteria Vecchio Olivo. This is the best compliment/recommendation for any place we stay, that we will return. Thank you again Luca for making our stay even more wonderful.

Our time in Italy would not have been the same if we didn't stay here. The house was perfect for 4 adults, with room for more. The kichen was fully equipped but did visit their restaurant a number of evenings too. Monte Carlo ws a very welcoming town where shoes were available to buy at low prices for all ages. We will be back!

Is the best place I have ever had the pleasure to vacation at, the location, accommodations, and the people where all perfect. If you are going to travel to Italy and you want to stay in first class accomodations and location in the heart or the Italian wine country then this is the place to stay.

You will need a car to get around, you can catch the train in Altopiscio 6km away and head off to Florence, Pisa, or Viareggio (The Italian Rivera). A car makes it easier but you have to look for parking and parking can be a challenge at many popular locations.

The Osteria Del Vecchio Olivo is within walking distance 200 or so meters, the food and the service is outstanding but, bring a flashlight at night to help you find you way back to your villa.

The Fort and town of Montecarlo was founded in 1333 by future Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV (Montecarlo - Charles' Mountain), who freed the nearby city of Lucca from Pisa city occupation is well within walking distance of the Agriturismo Vecchio Olivo you can also dine at many of the the outsatnding restaurant within the fort walls. The New York Cafe was the place to be for morning Coffee as well as a late nite Gelato. Walking up to and down from the town will help burn off the calories from the outastanding food you be eating. Don't forget you are in the heart of the best wine country in all of Italy so be ready to stop by 30 or so wineries that are spotted all over the area and taste the local wines grown in the area.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper you will be impressed with the sounds of the roosters and the Church bell...

At first: This is not a hotel, but an Agriturismo.

I have been in Cottage il Frantoio for two weeks. The cottage has almost all comfort which you can wish: Comfortable wide bed, bathroom, kitchen (including dishwasher, washing machine, gas-cooking and microwave)

The cottage lays on a hill in the middle of the olive and grape trees. Cars can be parked on the property and terrain is safely locked with a remote controlled gate. Trees and flowers on the terrain were very colorfull and well maintained! Swimming-pool is safe and very clean. Every morning the Agriturismo personal is cleaning the terrain and swimming-pool!

The owner has also a very nice Osteria (restaurant) in which we eated and found it very well! The Osteria was full and the personal was very proffesional and helpfull in explaining the Italian menu card.
