Galealpe Agriturismo
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Beautifully situated off the beaten track (but easily accessible from Arrezzo by car), Galealpe is a great base to discover Tuscany - 1h to 1h30 from all the main sites, and Arrezzo is a true pleasure! Dorothee and Martin are wonderful hosts - providing you with great tips for sightseeing, restaurants, and jams! They also did a great job renovating the house - all apartments (full self-catering) are top notch and very clean. The grounds also offer lots to do if you wish to unwind. A real treat, and the dog Gioia is always around to play with!

Very nice appartment about 20 minutes drive from picturesque town of Arrezo. Friendly owners and beautiful surroundings. Great if you prefer a calm and serene environment. The kitchen is fully equiped to make a delicious Italian meal and there is plenty of wood for the fireplace.

Last summer, we had an amazing experience staying at Galealpe. Four of us traveled to Italy (two ladies, daughter and her friend) in July of 2009. After several trips to Italy staying in hotels, we wanted to get off the beaten “tourista” path, rent a car, and find the “real” Italy….the Tuscan hill towns, the spectacular scenery, the art, the people, and of course, the local cuisine! (And the wine! Don’t forget the wine!) We found all that, and more at Galealpe!
Galealpe is located just outside of Arezzo, and perfectly situated to explore Tuscany. It’s a short, but memorable drive thru small towns and hamlets, across the Arno River, and finally winding up, up, up a scenic mountain road to the house! Getting there is half the fun! The house is situated on top of a hill, surrounded by olive groves and terrific views. There is plenty of comfortable wooden lawn furniture, so that you can take advantage of the magnificent views (thank goodness no plastic!). We stayed in Agri 2, a two-story apartment that was attached to the owner’s house. (There is plenty of privacy, in fact, we rarely heard or saw our hosts, unless we looked for them.) Our apartment was nicely furnished, with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was newly remodeled and had a great shower. The apartment was very clean, and outfitted with everything you could need, including towels and linens. Outside, we even had a picnic table that was the setting for our most memorable meals! There is nothing quite so fine as visiting a neighborhood market to buy the local bread, cheese, wine, and produce…and feasting while looking out over the Tuscan hills! Life doesn’t get any better than that!
Our hosts, Alessandra and Andrea, were delightful. They loaned us maps, plotted scenic drives, told us about the local history and pointed out places we shouldn’t miss. They also directed us to some local treasures--fine restaurants with some of the most amazing food, and mountain views to die for!
If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay where you can experience “la dolce vita”, look no further. Go straight to Galealpe! I think you’ll fall in love with it, just as we did!
