This is a place that needs more protection and more advertizing.
You have to get down and, of course, to get up by the wooden stairs, made available for free and maintained by Giuseppe, the owner of the bar "Scala dei turchi".
He told us while we had a coffee on the wonderful terrace of his bar that the bar and the stairs are his property but he wants to give all the possibility to admire this natural marvel.
Unfortunately, the Scala is not protected against vandals that wrote their names on the fragile limestone.

If you visit Agrigento and the valley of temples then you also have to visit scala dei Turchi. It is wonderful and amazing. It can be quite difficult to get there if you are a tourist without car, because it is not reachable by public transportation. I was at the temples with my girlfriend and we asked a local tour guide that spoke german if he knows how to get there. He offered us a ride and dropped us 2km from there. Then after few minutes of walk another car stopped and offered us a ride there. Sicilians like to pick people up and give them a ride so don't be shy to stop.

Way back was a little trickier, because we went on the sandy beach to Porto Empedocle and it is not a short walk. There is a bus station that looks deserted on the opposite side from the gas station, but buses to Agrigento drive frequently from there.

It's just a huge white rocky cliff but in the afternoon, when the sun is shining on it, its view is breathtaking!

It is not widely mentioned in travel guides, also easy to miss the exit lane because of the small sign, but it`s definitely worth the visit. Especially in sunset! We were there in early June, still not busy, almost no other tourists. Some beach snack bars were being built, I guess the season starts a bit later, sometime around mid June.

Nice place in the surroundings of Agrigento. Recommended in all touristic guides as one of the best European beaches. In my opinion, it's overvalued. We went two weeks ago and it was overcrowded. With a difficult access, it's not the kind of beach you weant to stay for more than 1-2 hours. Only recommendable if you are around the South.
