“A jewel of the Sicilian Baroque”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

A beautiful Baroque cathedral dedicated to St Nicholas, designed by Rosario Gagliardi, it was completed in 1776. It had its cupola collapsed in 1996, as a consequence of some inadequacy in repairs that took place after the cathedral having been damaged by earthquakes. Fortunately, it's been already restored. By the time of my visit, there was still some restoration work in process in its interior, which I found elegant and sober in its decoration. An aspect that attracted me in its interior was it is painted white and that, together with the entrance of natural light, increased the beauty of it.

“the birth of an old cathedral”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

this cathedral had it's dome collapse in the 20th century and the reclamation of its splendour is under way with the re-installation of the dome. when seeing the baroque exterior and expecting the same in the interior was surprise; but they are in the process of bringing it back.
the before and after combined. Besides the cathedral Noto is worth the stop.

“Impressive building in baroque style”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

The whole town of Noto is really impressive because of the magnificent baroque style buildings. They are well-preserved, and totally stunning on the outside. On the inside there's nothing worth seeing.
Great for pictures, and walking around - you get a special feel, as if you love hundreds of years ago. There's not much information however on all the buildings in Noto, the museums and other architectural attractions are not well introduced to the tourists I think.

“A baroque masterpiece”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

Wonderful building, good to see the renovation had been completed, no sign of scaffolding. You need to pace yourself and carry plenty of water.
