“A wonderful family experience in Sicily”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

My family of seven has just returned after ten fabulous days touring Sicily with Paolo Mortellaro. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend "Handy Sicily" if you are planning a private tour with friends or family.Paolo skillfully organised each day which was full of new and exciting experiences. At the end of each day we would say "can it get any better than this?".Stunning temples, archeological sites, picturesque towns, fabulous cafes and restaurants, fresh food markets, catacombes, fortresses and cathedrals. The hospitality we experienced through Laura and Corrado at the "Agriturismo Leone" over 5 days was exceptional and we have strong memories of feasting each day on the best quality local Sicilian produce topped off with farmfresh cannoli and limoncello before bed.We very much hope to return some day. “A wonderful tour around Sicily!”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

My family and I have just returned from a month long holiday in Italy. The highlight for us was the 8 day private tour with Paolo, from Taormina, around Sicily and finally to Calatabiano. Paolo managed to organise a full moon in the Valley of Temples, Agrigento; a moody mist over the medieval town of Erice; a wedding with organ music in the cathedral of Monreale; and catered to our personal interests in photographing ruins and cemetaries. He also found us the best gelati and cakes in Sicily!
I highly recommend Paolo's tour!

“If you are Thinking about Driving Yourself Around Sicily, Forget About It”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

We've returned from our trip around the whole of Sicily, and it would be difficult for us to express all the praise we have for Paolo and his efforts to have us enjoy the trip in comfort. I had thought about renting a car, and driving us around, and am extremely glad that I did not do so. The traffic in Sicily, especially in Palermo and Catania, is TERRIBLE, with chaos in the streets and especially in the roundabouts. The motorbikes do not obey the traffic rules. We're New Yorkers, and used to traffic, but not this -- so, even if you like driving and are good at it --fugetaboutit!

One suggestion: We flew into Catania, and toured ourselves in the city that day. So, we began with Paolo early in the AM the next day, and thus had a bit more time to travel, spending a full day in the South -- Noto, Scicli, Modica, Ragusa -- which was well worth it, especially because Paolo himself is from Noto, and knows the area very well.

We would also add that in various cities -- Siracusa, Palermo -- Paolo arranged for local guides, at no extra cost, who were experts and wonderful people to get to know.

5 Stars, like everyone else rates this tour.

“Great Sicilian Holiday”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

We've recently spent a wonderful 5 weeks in Europe, of which the last 9 days were spent in Sicily, being chauffered and guided expertly by Paola Mortellaro (Handy Sicily) From our meeting at Catania airport to Palermo drop off 9 days later it was a feast for the eyes, brain and tastebuds as we were treated to all sorts of new sights and experiences. We stayed at the Farm outside Noto "Agriturismo Leone" 5 nights which was very comfortable with hosts Laura and Corrado making us most welcome, we thoroughly enjoyed their Sicilian food red wine and hospitality.
Paola made it possible for us to expeiende things we would never have found ourselves, plus skilfully avoiding the tour groups. Having Paola to guide us meant we could enjoy the sights, the scenery the orchards of oranges and lemons, almonds ,olives, grapes ,prickly pear being harvested ,shady carob trees, artichokes and much more without looking for road signs, parking spots and dealing with the traffic. He took us to the fresh food markets in Siracusa and Palermo, encouraging us to taste specialities which were delicious and generous. His knowledge and passion for Sicilian history and culture is remarkable and he draws attention to points of interest on route. Among the places visited were ancient Siracusa, the beautiful baroque town Noto, by day and night, the mosaics of Villa del Tellara and Piazza Armerino, picturesque Taormina, craters and lunar landscape of Mt Ena The Valley of Temples in Agrigento, a must by night also, the archeological park at Segesta, the medieval town of Erice where we lunched at the famous pastry shop "Grammatico Maria" pasticceria, and met Maria herself, and busy but interesting Palermo.
The accomodation and eating places suggested by Paolo were all very good and we'd both love to return to see some more of Sicily with Handy Sicily and Paolo .

“Handy Sicily with Paolo Mortellaro”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Four friends and I (long-time friends; all in our 60s) just returned from an 11-day tour of Sicily with Paolo Mortellaro of Handy Sicily. We unanimously agreed that Paolo deserved a 5* applause not only for his superbly knowledgeable tour of the island (Catania to Palermo) but equally for his delightful character, his attention to any request, his accommodating ways and marvelous sense of humor. Paolo arranged all lodging but for two nights when we requested a stay in a small villa near Mt. Etna; he made that change seamlessly. We relied on him for dining suggestions and discovered wonderful restaurants not in the guide books. Our itinerary included a wealth of important sites -- ancient ruins and archeological parks, exquisite Norman and Baroque churches, extraordinary Roman mosaics. But we also enjoyed nature reserves, splendid gardens, stunning views of the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas and of Sicily's coves and bays from towering hilltops.
Walking along the rim of a crater at Mt. Etna was an unforgettable experience. Sicily has a more diverse landscape than any of us had imagined and a history and splendor that came alive through Paolo's enchanting tour. Mille grazie, Paolo!
