“A must in Noto”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Fontana d'Ercole is a "must" in Noto. We ate here twice, once late at night the day we arrived (at the recommendation of our B&B host) the second time the night before our departure. First, there is an extensive menu, mostly based on seafood but also including local cheese and specialties. The pastas are made in house. Please ask for recommendations from the owner or staff. They will steer you in the right direction. I strongly recommend the Fino-Fino with Vongole and Pistachio if it is available. The scoglio was also outstanding. Also, ask the owner about a digestivo. He makes some wonderful things like a finocchio-based liquor (made with a similar process as limoncello) or he can recommend something like the zibibbo (a sweet white wine from the area). The decor is not fancy and do not be surprised if the fresh catch is carried in past your table. If you want to look like your having a good meal, go elsewhere. It you want a truly memorable food experience come to Fontana d'Ercole and follow their great advise.

“Looks unpromising but”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Its a tiny door down an alley and a blackboard that defiantly says it is open, despite appearances to the contrary. As soon as you walk in, however, you could be in any classy restaurant. We had homemade pasta dishes, ravioli with sugo al maiale, fink fini with clams and pistachio, and a fusilli with mussels and clams - all excellent. A rich fish menu, and the owner is honest about what is fresh and not - prawns from Portopalo were on offer. Nice house wines, and good sweet options. Let us eat and chat for 3 hours - and all at around 60 euros for 3. Finally somewhere decent to eat in the centre of Noto.

“great local food!”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

This trattoria was recommended by our hotel as serving good local food; very fresh pasta served al dente, with seafood being the specialty. We asked our server for her recommendation since we don't speak or read Italian; she recommended a great antipasti and 2 delicious pastas that we thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend it!

“Best local cuisine”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

Six of us lunched at Fontane d'Ercole after obtaining a recommendation from another group of six who ate there 6 weeks earlier. We were not disappointed. The family-run operation translates into excellent authentic dishes for a very affordable price.
