Our 2nd teip to the same hotel! We stayed there for 2 weeks and had a great time with family! Very good service overall, especially the lifeguard (Paolo) and the staff at the poolbar (Sam & Salvo) ! Hotel had their own animation team who arranged several type of activities every day and was fully passionated. We will definetely come back!

Dolcestate Hotel is the worst hotel I stayed in the last 5 years.

The only positive side is the fact that we had a large and spacious apartment that was renovated not long ago. However, they forgot to renovate the bathroom floor. There was a bad odour in the bathroom that they tried to fix with a perfumed spray.

The hotel lies in the middle of nowhere. Shuttle busses are only offered on request. When you don’t have a car, you’re stuck at the hotel.

I do understand that a hotel owner does not like the principle of all-inclusive, that’s fine with me. In that case don’t offer it !
We had an all-inclusive bracelet and on top an all-inclusive card. You always had to show the all-inclusive card, even for 20 ml of water in a disposable cup. Water is a basic need, more, when temperatures are climbing to 40°C, it is necessary to keep your hotel guests healthy. You can’t get a bottle of water to get through the night unless you pay for it.
No pool towels includes in the all-inclusive.

We also received another card to put money on to buy things not included. You could load it from 5 euro. On departure the management will not refund the balance.

I did not like the meals. At breakfast only 2 sorts of bread, every day the same cheese and meat. Fruit salad out of a tin. At noon corn out of a tin. In the evening squid out of a tin. No variation at all. The kitchen could never not follow the needs of the restaurant especially with meat and fish. This is also a way to reduce costs.

We arrived at 11 pm and had to leave our room the day of departure at 10 am. There is no shower room available, but you can keep your room longer when you pay 50 euro.
I even had to discuss about having lunch and drinks the day of departure. This is not a holiday .

Discussion with the staff is very difficult as they speak poor English and French. The hotel manager only speak Italian !

How on earth did this hotel got a 4 star rating ?

First pros

We came in the middle of July at night travelling by plane to Catania with Polish tour operator Rainbow. Due to late flight we arrived at 1AM and even thought we were informed that for the late arrivals the first meal is the breakfast we were surprised by cold dinner waiting for all of us in the restaurant. The meal was really tasty and packed to stay fresh.

The breakfasts are standard but not typically continental so not only the croissant and coffee but every day there is some choice of ham, salami, cheese, eggs and bacon available apart from the marvelous number of sweet cakes and cookies, traditional breakfast food from Sicily. Some may say the breakfasts are every day the same but who cares if there is everything you need in a quantity which does not require to wait or stay in a ques. Maybe it would be nice to replace the instant coffee with ground one and prepared in coffee machines but this instant was also tasteful.
The dinners were as we imagined, plenty of vegetables, fish and amazing desserts... We never faced any lack of any food and the staff was always at a hand for any support. Do not plan to get slimmer here :) The first evening was a gala dinner with served meals, we selected the kids menu and fish menu for us. All with live music and perfect service was a really nice start of the holidays. If you plan to get some fit you can take advantage of the perfect animations provided by Ash, Mr Momo and Marika with team. They were really motivating but discrete so no push to take part in any game or gym. Very professional approach with plenty of dance, gym and mini discos for kids. We are not fans of animations but they were so nice that we finally decided to take some gym and dance lessons. The miniclub was also provided for small kids up to 7 years. Real professionals and hope to meet them somewhere else in future. Thank you for the night with cabaret in the amphitheater we really enjoyed it.

The hotel was built in 2008 and is very clean and we saw a lot of staff maintaining the hotel surroundings as well as the rooms. Room was cleaned every day and the towels were replaced as well. There is a lot of green around the hotel and inside the hotel premises.

The rooms are equipped with AC which is controlled via thermostat on the wall and works perfectly however is quite noisy so better to switch it to lower fan revs. for the night. There is also a safe available free of charge in the room as well as flat TV and very good lighting system. Our room had very large terrace with table and chairs and sunshades in the window. The temperature inside was always comfortable.

Swimming pool is very large and clean. The indoor part was almost empty as the outdoor part is really big so no one used the part by the hotel rooms. The pool for small children is just a part of the big pool divided by a wall. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, never we had any problem to find unoccupied beds. Shadowed places with beds are also available under the palm trees. There is a bar by the pool with perfect service and good choice of drinks, snacks, etc. Another bar is in the hotel near the pool. The safeguards are available until 7PM. Water polo lessons and water gym lessons are provided by animators.

Just by the pool is the green area where the gym lessons are provided in the shadow as well as the kindergarten with almost new equipment for any age, safe and surrounded by green fence and in the shadow of palm and olive trees. There is also a table tennis equipment available. If you wish there is also a tennis or football court but in 40*C we never saw anyone to play there :)

There is a shop available in the hotel with toys, clothes, souvenirs, postcards and water.

Be aware that the hotel is located far from any large town, which means c.a. 30 mins of driving the local road or highway. This is not a hotel for party lovers. You need to use taxi 10€ or bus to Campofelice di Rocella or to Cefalu (also a night course is available) as well as to Palermo. There is also a train available but the station is c.a. 3km from the hotel. All buses organised by hotel were on time and very safe (which is not a rule in Sicily ;)). There is an option to rent a bike by the hotel Car rental is possible via reception or via tour operator's agents. We used Sicily Travel and the Panda offered for 70€/day plus 10€ insurance. Mr Kamil was very helpful and delivered the car in the evening before the day of rental. No mileage limit no credit card needed. I just paid 80€ with a debit card and that was it. We visited near medieval castle in Caccamo (with ice cream and coffee break by the castle), Castelbuono and wineyards in St. Anastasia. On the way we had a lunch in Tavernete restaurant by Marina in Cefalu with beautiful landscape from the terrace.

Cefalu is also worth to spend a day on walking, drinking coffee, taking photos, seeking for souvenirs, etc. Beach is large but much more crowded and noisy. We did not get any sunbed there, all were occupied. Beautiful nice town with lot of monuments and small narrow streets. Unfortunately the main mosaic in the cathedral was under repair so we could see only the printed copy.

MANY MANY PLUSES to hotel Dolcestate where the hotel beach is cleaned every day and was perfectly maintained with safeguard and sunbeds+umbrellas (free for hotel guests) as well as toilet and shower available. Just by the beach there is an storage area of some enterprise surrounded by concrete fence. I was affraid looking at google map that it may destroy the view as well as may be noisy but for the 8 days I saw no movement there like it was closed. The fence is mostly covered with oleanders, opuncia and asparagus so almost not visible from the hotel beach.
Be aware that hotel beach is on the small cliff and to get to the lower part just by the sea you need to walk down a sandy path. The sunbeds are located both on lower and upper part of the beach. The beach and shallow water is pebbles and stones covered so for the first 20 m of walking in the sea it is worth to have water shoes as walking with bare foot may be painful.
One remark to the hotel management. It would be nice to have a small bar also by the beach with coffee and drinks available.

There is one big CON not related directly to the hotel but to the Sicilian/Italian government and the local authorities. The waste and rubbish is everywhere and especially on the beaches. Few hundreds meters from the hotel is the big hill of rubbish directly on the street, where local people are throwing the waste bags. I saw it personally while jogging to the nearby ruins of Roccela tower. I saw a man who brought three big bags of waste and left them just on the beach in the presence of a family laying on the towels just few meters from him. There is nothing like romantic walk in the evening possible as you need to be careful what are you stepping on. I heard this is standard in Italy but if we in any EU country are forced to maintain the waste and to segregate it at very high cost due to EU rules why is the Italy freed of this rules, why is none taking care of it?
The other hotel beaches were not so clean even with the safeguard and so once again so again big Bravi to hotel Dolcestate for keeping the high standard on the beach.

To assume. We had a perfect holidays with kids in a calm and safe place that provided us chill-out and tasteful food. We received more than we expected when reading the tour operator's offer. Thank you for this perfect week and we hope to visit Dolcestate hotel again in future :)

Room tip: Rooms by the pool and amphitheater are noisy due to discos and events
