I knew that it did not augur well when our bags were dumped unceremoniously at the bottom of the flight of steps leading up to our suite. It only got worse. Much worse.

The pool(the best thing about this hotel)is unmanned for a few hours over lunch when the staff has a siesta. No cool drinks then and no poolside meals at all thus driving you into the expensive and unattractive restaurant.

The place is run shambolically. Where else in Italy does breakfast stop on the dot of 10 and lunch on the dot of 2? Where else would you see a dead bird caught in some netting for it still to be there three days later? And it's expensive. This is a sham. A third rate hotel masquerading as a first.

If you do decide to take a visit,do yourself a favour and eat in Il Castello in Brucoli.

My wife flew in from the U.S. I came by Navy boat. We met at Venus. It was too brief of a stay. The hotel was 75 Euro's from the airport (Get a rental car with good gas mileage). It is in a remote location in Brucoli (Be prepared for two English channels and 15 Italian channels on tv). Go here if you want privacy, great food and an unbelieveable sea view. Do not go here if you want to be close to the big cities of Sicily. If you do not rent a car, the bus comes by the hotel and will take you to Augusta for 2 Euros. Siracusa and Taormina are assecible by bus or train and both are worth the journey. The hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms are simple with connected porches and spectacular views. The beds are reasonably firm. AC is ample if ou close all the windows. The pools are well populated past 11am, but the clientele is select. The connected restaurant has a superb breakfast. Miss it at your own peril. The view itself it breathless. Then go to Augusta, Etna, Agrigento or the pool again and remember to return for dinner. Let the waiter pick your wine. Try different dishes The steak). Brush up on your Italian and plan for a very relaxing, quiet retreat.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Venus in the summer 2002 while living in Sicily. We also ate dinner there on another occasion and both were fabulous experiences. The hotel has the most beautiful architecture, swimming pool and view in all of Sicily if not all of Italy! The hotel is very new so the rooms are modern yet charmingly Sicilian at the same time. I would consider this a true 5 star if it had a spa or more services or activities. I think they have plans to expand so maybe these are in the works.

Because of the out of the way location it is quiet and very private. We sat at the pool all day and didn’t want to ever leave. The ocean is below at the foot of a cliff so there really is no beach but they install bathing paltforms on the rocks during the high summer season. The food at the restaurant is superb, truly gourmet. Very fresh seafood, great wine and unforgettable ambiance - dinning outdoors in the warm Sicilian evening. The hotel is close enough to Siracusa to be convenient for day trips, but the Venus is really a destination in itself, the kind of place to go to relax and unwind.
