We were recommended to this restaurant by our hotel, and when we arrived we were very warmly welcomed. The frontage looks a bit shabby and faded, but the food and the ambience more than made up for that.
The selection of antipasti was interesting and it was good to try some real Sicilian dishes.
It looks out onto one of Acireale's beautiful churches - looks just like a wedding cake!

We are very happy to stop here for dinner. It is located in front of the "duomo" on a calm piazza.
The waitress was very gentle and insists to talk in French even if we could speak in Italian.
The dishes were very good, we took typical antipasti from Sicily and they were amazing (we had a lot of stuffs, we could have eaten just this !).
The service was quick and everyone was very nice.
I strongly recommend this restaurant in Acireale.

I visited l'Oste Scura during our yearly company team building. We arrived in front of the restaurant at around 1330, starving and were immediately welcome and sat at our table. Once settled we were offered fresh home-made lemonade which was a joy to drink after an early morning at the airport and a long car trip to get to our accomodation.

We all decided to start off with the antipasto and move on to the main course, but upon the suggestion of the owner we ordered just the antipasto because, as he rightly suggested, we might not want more food after that. He sure knew what he was talking about. The food was superb and very tasty, with different Sicilian delicacies. Two thumbs up.

I would highly recommend this friendly place and will surely visit again if I happen to be visit Acireale again.

I think the person a couple below summed this place up very well and we did read that review before we went to the restaurant and were laughing at how accurate it was.

Firstly, the starter was good. I had a seafood tortellini which was great and at this point we were fine with the slightly aggressive waitress we had. She had basically said that we should all go for this starter as it was their speciality, which is fine.

When it came to the mains though, this is when she started to get really agitated and pushy with us. Firstly, she recommended we all had the steak - some of us wanted the swordfish which was fine but the problem arose when the people who did go for the steak didn't want it cooked how she wanted us to have it. She insisted on well done, which is not how to eat steak in our eyes. A couple asked for rare and one for medium rare but she basically got us to have them all medium bar one who only liked it well done. She also seemed frustrated that we chose different sauces as well.

It made sense why when we actually got our food - the well done steak had the wrong sauce on, so it would seem that the communication between front of house and chef was poor - this would also make sense on why she was insistent on us all having the same.

The orange and lemon sauce didn't compliment the steak at all and the pepper sauce they provided for the other steaks basically tasted like hotdog brine. I've honestly had better at a Weatherspoons!

The dessert wasn't anything memorable so I won't really go into any detail about that.

All in all, we spent between us £300 on a meal that we were made to feel like an annoyance to their night and the food wasn't very good at all. The front of house try to push the same thing on everyone to make their night easy and they order quantities of wine that you didn't ask for (we ordered 2 wines and we got 4 bottles come out).

I love the food of Sicily but this is a poor interpretation of what this country has to offer. Save yourself a lot of money and try somewhere else

Great food, amazing location (even though pretty noisy due to the fact that many tables are in the middle of street), the host is more than a gentleman and really friendly (He's a true friend since my first meal!). Just go for it!!!! And enjoy!! Cause you will!
