Imagine a serene country retreat, with lovely food, a beautiful pool and gentle breezes, you have found it here. The decor is stark white with rustic accents.
The amenities are a little sparse, ie. no drinking glasses in the room, intermittent wifi and no real bar, but a great place for r and r. Please note there are many cats around the Masseria so if that is a problem for you find another place.

We had our annual holiday here in July. After a very fraught journey from Bari we arrived extremely frazzled on a very hot afternoon. We found Montelauro very hard to find (a combination of satnav an my directions not good!) Maybe a hotel from both approaches to the hotel instead of the one from Otranto would assist. However, our welcome was very warm and friendly and our room excellent. We were on the first floor and were somewhat relieved as we would not have enjoyed the ground floor rooms where people are constantly coming past your door and as the door is the only light coming into the room they have to remain open.

Like previous reviewers, we enjoyed the grounds and the donkey/pony and dogs and cats. Not for everyone though.

The only gripe we had was the food! We were so disappointed on our first night - just a watery stew on offer! We decided to take a trip into Otranto on subsequent nights but did eat two more meals at the hotel which again were extremely disappointing - possibly the food of the regions not to our taste?

We would certainly go back, the staff were particularly helpful and the pool are particularly was a very high standard. We enjoyed our stay very much.

I just loved this place! The setting was charming - I love walking around the grounds looking at all the fruit trees and flowers. I also enjoyed hearing the donkeys "call" for their dinner, fortunately they were quiet at breakfast... My room was spacious and clean, with unfussy decor. It was bright and airy, with a pretty view of the grounds. The bed was big and comfortable. I really like the bathroom light fixtures, they cast a pretty pattern on the walls. The breakfasts were very good, but the group dinner they prepared for us was a feast for the eyes and palate!

My family and I spent 5 nights at this masseria. We had such a lovely time - the masseria was beautiful, the pool was so relaxing, and everyone we met was very friendly. Other than the air-con not working at first, our rooms were perfect and very pretty. Breakfast was nice, and dinner was very good (we ordered way too much and they are massive portion sizes) but the food itself was really good quality. We loved our stay at this masseria, and will hopefully be returning next year!

We spent 3 nights at the Masseria Montelauro in July 2013. It's a beautiful place in a very nice and relaxing setting. The pool is very pretty and the garden around too. We had a junior suite which was very spacious but with a very small bathroom and a tiny shower that leaked every time we took a shower and the water would come inside the room. The breakfast was very poor and the dinner was nothing special with limited choice. The hotel clearly had a major lack in service and was missing this extra small but important thing: warmth and generosity.

This was the second masseria on our stay in Puglia. It was less than the first one (villa cenci near Cisternino), but still very nice.
It was located near the road so we heard a lot of cars passing when sittng by the pool. There were a lot of children, though the hotel owners are not to be by the nose they made. It was more a family masseria in my opinion.
The rooms were nice and cosy and clean, but the airconditioning barely worked. It just blew air and at night it made a lot of noise. My parents' airco broke down and the owners did nothing to replace it. They said most of the airconditioners were broken... So our two nights were hot and with little sleep. We also had ants in the bathroom.
The breakfast was good with fresh products and we dined one night. It was a relief you didn't have to take a full menu, because for small eaters four courses are way too much.
A downside was that my sister's sunglasses had dissapeared and seemed to be stolen. A shame since the entire domain was enclosed with a gate that closed. The hotel owners are not to blame, but did little to help us and we had to mail them to ask if they found it or not.
The pool tasted strange and didn't seem very clean next to the other masseria (even birds drank from that pool). I'm not sure this was because of all the children or no chlorine.

At first sight a very nice hotel, but for the price we paid we expected a lot more (compared to the other masseria). We had a bit of misfortune, so I wouldn't avoid this hotel. But I recommend to keep a close eye on hour belongings. Still, there are better masseria's in Puglia if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

Room Tip: Not near the pool (if there are children, they make a lot of noise). Otherwise, it provides grass an...
