We stayed just two night at Masseria Panareo but we would like to come back soon.
We were travelling around the region but staying at the extreme East of Italy in an amazing area in a structure like this one was one of the best moment of the road trip.
Our room was wide and comfortable with a private terrace too.
There is a large infinity swimming pool with an amazing view on the sea, field and Torre Sant'Emiliano with all facilities.
Breakfast and dinner are served in the main vaulted ceiling room or in the terrace. Both are delicious, typical but creative cooking.
Staff is professional, kind and nice.

We stayed here with our 5 year old daugher for a week. Though initially we had been put in an upstairs room. When we asked to change this was done the next day ,despite the hotel being busy. We moved to a lovely room with private outside space for our daughter to play in.
The view from the pool and outdoor restaurant was great . The pool was excellent and never busy. The grounds of the hotel were immaculately kept and the hotel grounds always felt quiet and spacious.
The staff at breakfast and dinner were charming, efficient and friendly without being intrusive and made us feel welcome. They were very good with our daughter and always ensured that she got her food first.
The wine was very good and the food was generally good ( some of it was very good)although some of it was not to our taste rather than anything being wrong with it.
We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and were sorry to leave.

The Panereo was a bit tricky to find, perhaps because it was our first day driving in Italy and we were finding the road signing very confusing! We had one of the superior rooms in the annexe and we did have a sea view, albeit from upstairs. There were also tables and chairs on the patio outside where you could sit out. The room was nicely decorated although not very large, and the bathroom spotless and well-equipped.

Dinner was included in our package and was very good and nicely presented, although the service was a little slow and this was when the hotel was by no means full. Breakfast was fine but only standard, nothing special.

The grounds of the Masseria have the potential to be very nice, but they were still a work in progress when we were there. I didn't see the non-superior rooms, round the courtyard, but they might well, I suspect, be pretty small.

It was very quiet and the staff, although there weren't many in evidence, were friendly and helpful.

Massively disappointing. We booked a 'Superior Double with sea view' through 'Cognoscenti' for two nights as part of an 8 day tour round Puglia and Basilicata. The property in no way measures up to the description given by the booking agent. The rooms about 100m from the main house, in a sort of annexe that also houses reception, at the bottom of a long flight of steps. The first room we were offered was dark and dingy up a steep flight of narrow stairs behind reception, the second was worse, being directly off reception. Neither had any outdoor space. Ideally we would have left there and then, but as it was late we had no choice but to accept a standard double that at least had opening patio doors. The room and bathroom were both tiny, totally unsuitable for anything other than a quick overnight as there was no room to even unpack. The evening meal in the largely deserted dining room was poor and my wif'e's undercooked pork had to be sent back twice, the second time permanently, with no apology was forthcoming from the chef, (who also doubled as receptionist). On informing them the next morning that we would not be staying for the second night, the staff became surly and difficult, only very grudgingly removing part of the cost of my wife's meal from the bill. They were not however prepared to refund the deposit we had paid for the second night and referred us back to 'Cognoscenti', who have also refused a refund. Bearing in mind that the actual room rate available at the hotel is some 20% less than we paid through 'Cognoscenti', we are understandably left with a slightly bad taste in our mouths! Our advice - always book direct, don't pay deposits and arrive early just in case you don't like what you've booked. It's a lovely area, there are loads of great places to stay and you can do so much better than this place.

You can't fault the location: fabulous views to the sea from this little oasis of tranquility, and overall, we loved staying here, but there are a few niggles. The masseria claims to offer a 'cafeteria' service all day, but it's drinks only, no food, and there is never anyone obviously on duty, so you do feel as though you're being a nuisance asking for anything. The restaurant is open only in the evenings, and the food is very good, but the service was laughably slow. We had a standard room, which we thought opened on to the terrace, but it didn't - internal courtyard - and the room was tiny! Would go for a superior another time.

We had done a vast amount of research on Masseria in Puglia before travelling there, and due to a mistake when trying to figure out where Panareo was (I thought it was north of Lecce rather than 1500m from the sea - don't ask!), we had ruled it out as somewhere to stay in.

This was unfortunate, as when we realised where it really was, we found the time to stay there for a night and it was very nice. It had it's own restaurant as well as a pool, and was surrounded by ancient olive trees so was perfect for us!

The bedroom and bathroom are not huge, but have a small amount of charm, with exposed wooden rafters - they are in a converted stable rather than a Masseria, from what I could tell, so they lacked the vaulted stone ceilings we had seen in other Masseria.

Nonetheless, they were more than adequate!

The service in the restaurant wasn't great, with long waits for menus and each course. I had been told that I could go 'half-board' as a vegetarian and be served a set menu and had been looking forward to it, but when in the actual restaurant this turned out not to be the case and we went a la carte instead.

The food, when we eventually ordered it and waited for it to arrive, was delicious.

I would recommend it for a visit, although we didn't see any nice beaches on that side of the Salento peninsula - nothing to compare with Pescoluse on the Ionian side...
