We were blessed with great weather for a mid-October break and had a really fantastic time in Achill.
The cottage was beautiful and David had thought of everything to make sure we had a perfect escape. It's really well situated, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Slievemore mountain, which we climbed whilst we were there (up the easier trek from the Deserted Village) and is just a short walk from the nearest beach, the beautiful Silver Strand.
We were always lovely and warm with the central heating and the real fire burning in the lounge, happily eating and drinking together at the end of each varied day exploring, whilst keeping up with the rest of the world on the tv and wifi.
The cottage is really tastefully decorated and David made sure that we were really well looked after, having thought of everything we might have needed and was always quick to respond to any questions we had.
If you like the simple life exploring unspoilt beaches, hills and mountains, deserted villages and lots, lots more, then this is a great base from which you can enjoy it all at your leisure.
The old fishermans cottage was just perfect for our family of five. The boys enjoyed the bunk bed room and our teenaged daughter was happy to have a big, cozy room all to herself. My husband and I loved being able to look at the sea from our bedroom window each morning. Being off season, there were not many restaurant options available as most had just closed for the season only days before our arrival. This was not a problem however, as the kitchen was very well equipped for us to have our meals at home, with the added bonus of sea views from the dining table!
We truly enjoyed Achill island and spent most of our time exploring the coast and looking for treasures on the many beautiful beaches. We did have a very wet, cold, windy afternoon while there, again not a problem as we were happy to stay in, light the fire and cozy up on the very comfortable couches and watch a movie.
David really knows how to make his guests feel welcome. We were pleasantly surprised to find luxury toiletries, a bottle of prosecco in the fridge and a signature Achill candle for us to keep. I am still surprised at the value for money here.
Loved this cottage and can't wait to return next summer!

We stayed at The Old Fisherman's Cottage in October and had the most wonderful sunny week. The cottage is everything you desire and need, an extremely well equipped kitchen which we used most of the week. The little touches on arrival were so thoughtful, prosecco, chocolates and a lovely candle. The cottage is clean, comfortable, warm, cosy and beautifully styled. We lit the log burner most nights but you didn't really need it, but it was a lovely bonus. The views from the cottage are stunning and you're only a very short walk away from the most beautiful beaches. We love hiking and spent our week exploring the island and walked from the door most times, Sleivemore mountain is a must, views from the top are spectacular. There's information on the local restaurants and pubs. Our holiday was relaxing and peaceful, we felt at home as soon as we arrived. We will be going back. We absolutely loved it, thank you David.
