This is quite an interesting place but it's not maintained as I think it's on private land and not part of a national trust. It's still very interesting to walk around the old ruins but if there was more information about the history of the place it could be a great attaction.

An easy walk for all ages. We walked along the road trying to picture what it must have been like to live here. Its sad to think of how these people lived and were forced out by the famine. Tragic!

The deserted village is well worth the trip. It is a collection of cottages and sheds deserted from about the Famine times. It is poignant walking around through the cottages and imaginging the life of the people who lived there. Most of the cottages are one room where living, sleeping and everyday life took place and even the animals would sleep there at night. It is well worth stopping off at and going back in time.

This is a sight well worth a visit, it is the remains of a small village in Achill where all the villagers had to leave during the famine.

The deserted village at Slievemore is just one of lots of things not to be missed on a visit to Achill Island. When you stand at the side of the road and look into the distance at all the deserted cottages you can almost hear ( if you listen hard enough ) voices from another time. There is a path right to the end of all the cottages but it's also nice to climb up and walk in and out of the cottages at your leisure. The old cemetery at Slievemore is also worth a visit but you need to be careful as it's unused now and uneven underfoot.
