“I like this wonderfull garden more than Kilmore Abbbey”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

We enjoyed staying with the friendly William en Doutsje at Achill Secret Garden very much. They both were very hospitable.
The beautiful and special library B&B room is neat and cosy with a big comfortable bed. Divided from the room there is a private bathroom including soaps available. Out the window is a breathtaking scenery on a creek and the breakfast is perfectly arranged. (full Irish breakfast, fresh fruit etc.)
The people on Achill are very friendly too and the environment is pure.

Coming into the garden I was a bit suprised by the admission fee but certainly it is worth it every euro! The garden is like a fairytale garden. What surprised me was the art in it and at the end the the. coffee, cookies and cake.

“A little piece of hidden Heaven!”
Reviewed August 1, 2011

We decided to spend August Bank Holiday Monday in Achill`s Secret Garden. Let me tell you it is absolutely beautiful. From the moment you leave the main road you are transported into a beautiful, serene, tranquil and almost magical world of Flora and Fauna. Every inch of the gardens (which the owners have named rooms) are full of scents, colours and surprises! It is so simple yet so enchanting. It is suitable for all ages both young and old alike. Every ‘Room’ is different and holds some kind of secret or surprise for the visitor. When you have finished your expedition, you are invited into the ‘Boat House’ where you are served fresh tea or coffee along with cake and biscuits. The owners are so friendly with loads of knowledge on the history of the quaint cottage and gardens. There are lots more I could tell you about the gardens but I feel it would be unfair to spoil the awe-inspiring pleasures that await your visit. We will certainly be back to bask in the essence of Achill’s Secret Garden.

“Beautiful gardens, warm friendly owners, surprisingly different.”
Reviewed June 25, 2011

We had a lovely day having been warmly greeted by the owners and handed a map of the gardens we found our way around the different rooms. Beautiful ancient trees and new addition of the tree ferns - the original were killed off by the brutal winter of 2010/2011. The day ended in the boathouse with cake, herbal tea (freshly plucked from the kitchen garden) and the most delicious home-made elderberryflower cordial. The view from the boathouse of the sea was a very calming end to a very special day!

“We loved it!”
Reviewed May 9, 2011

Just back from two nights in Achill. We stayed in Bleanaskill and were very happy with it. The room was so cosy, and a door opened out onto a lawn which was on the sea - aah! The house was full of interesting bits of artwork, and the garden itself was packed full of treats, little signs and sculptures and lots and lots of beautiful plants. Springtime was displayed in all its glory in the garden. It is not a very large garden, but small is beautiful. Our hosts were warm, welcoming and could not do enough to ensure that we were comfortable and looked after. We had a small baby with us and nothing was too much trouble - including washing bottles for the baby! This is not a conventional B&B, it is quirky and artistic - however thats exactly why we loved it!

“Nothing special”
Reviewed December 13, 2010

We went here having read about it on the brochure. We were a little disappointed with the place. We love plants, and felt the place was not well kept. The lady offering tea at the end of the tour seemed unplesant. The price was a little much for what you get.

Thanks for taking the trouble to give us your review. I am very sorry to see that you didn't experience something special in our garden.
But I just have to get this off my chest:
You will hardly find any garden on an island in the Atlantic Ocean, like Achill. The weather conditions are very tough and make it almost impossible to materialize a garden at all.
So whatever taste you have about the design of a garden, Achill Secret Garden is special just because she exists.
When you might visit us again, make yourself known and I will be pleased to give you an introduction.
kind regards, Doutsje
