Mickeys bar! The owner joise seemed more interested in her locals .. Maybe it was because we didn't stay there this time. I had been waiting to be served .one her locals came up after me and she put her finger up at me as much as to say one minute, and proceeded over to her local and served them first. Behind the bar on the mirror there were plenty of cobwebs could do with dusting and cleaning. The table we sat down at had remains of food, and salt.Could have done with a wipe of a cloth after they cleared the table. If your an outsider probably not the place to go. Don't ask the staff to smile they might crack. Oh one other thing .one of the pictures provided with this review certainly wasn't anything the room we got when we visited last year.

friendly welcome, lovely pub, food nice as well. entertainment excellent..accommodation not so good, if your looking for a holiday where your out every night and the weather is good this is the place to stay. if you have a family and you want to get some sleep the odd nite, then this is not the place to stay. Anyone that was going to their room we heard them the hall floor was really noisy and walls were really thin. decor was very plain and not nice. it wasn't the type of place you would want to go back during the day and relax in, Plus after they made our beds they left our door unlocked.. lucky I had no valuables in the room. The sheets were damp, we either got a room that's not used very often or they weren't dried fully. our view from our window was the back of the building with pipes sticking of the ground and walls of building. plus when booking we were not told there was going to be a mar -key outside our window. If this had been advised we wouldn't have stayed. the en suite was really dark and small for a family of four sharing. I was more tired leaving than arriving..If you don't mind not getting sleep, damp sheets, and your not bothered about the view. this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: make sure your not the first room on the corridor, because everyone has to pass it..unless there'...

Our room was plain with somewhat dated decor, but clean and the beds were good quality and comfortable. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. From our large window we could see the sea and the tiny community of Dooega. The hotel is about a half mile from a small crescent 'Blue Flag' beach with lovely golden sand. The breakfasts were good. Staff was very attentive and friendly. There is an adjacent bar/restaurant adjacent that serves simple but good food until around 8 pm.

We noted that the guests in nearby Room 24 were keeping a medium size dog in their room. While we like dogs, we would not have chosen to stay where dogs have stayed. It is a personal preference relating to hygiene and allergies. Just an observation!

The location: Dooega is a small community several miles off the main road, on the south side of Achill Island. The only commercial business we could identify in Dooega is the B & B with adjacent bar/restaurant. If you want peace and quiet and lovely surroundings, that characterizes Dooega. It rained torrents while we were guests in Dooega... had it been dry and sunny I can imagine the scenery would be spectacular.

Towards the far end of the island, the large town of Keel (pop around 2,700) has a gorgeous long white sand beach. Unfortunately, it also has block after block of trailers -- hundreds -- parked next to the beach along with a garishly lit carnival with ferris wheel, etc. It is pity that such a world class natural area and beach has been marred by such development. That has not occurred in Dooega -- not a trailer park to be seen.

We are just back from Achill and stayed in Lavelle's, have to say when we walked through the main door it looked really old but cosy, we were led down to our rooms which were bright and airy and looking over the beautiful hills on Achill with the sun glistening on the sea, just beautiful! We had a bite to eat in Mickeys, a real old time pub! After a day of exploring the island and cliffs we were ready for bed, no need for a television as we had loads to talk about, beds were so comfy and decor was nice. Small cold buffet with a choice of cereals, fruit and yoghurts, great choice from hot menu, just couldn't complain (and im fussy!) Price was very good for 2 rooms booked, friendly staff and child friendly too! Oh and blackout curtains was great, hate waking up at sunrise when taking a break.
I will be back.

Room Tip: Im sure they all have sea view.

I agree broadly with the views expressed by happyexplorer. This is indeed more like a motel than a B&B; the rooms are cold (even last weekend in late July when we stayed there); the place is very overpriced for €45 a night for a single room with breakfast; it is painted and furnished in a very basic and sometimes tacky way; the lady of the house is very hospitable. But overall, there are far better places to stay in Achill than this. Our friends, who booked well in advance, paid just €30 and €35 for single rooms in far superior accommodation.

Adequate rooms,no tv but not needed.Family run and owners are friendly and helpful.Guests tended to mix well and share experiences. We went to Achill for the half marathon and overall had a great weekend.

We booked 2 standard rooms for 4 people and what a surprise we got when we entered in the rooms - What an amazing views!!! The lambs and sheeps running just in front of us, the blue Atlantic Ocean and a bunch of houses hiding few holidaymakers and locals alike.

It had been a long day of travelling from Dublin and we were just delighted to have a relaxed evening. After chilling out for a while in the rooms, we decided to have a bite. While the menu in Mike's bar is not very sumptuose, the choices of sandwiches, salmon, soup and boxties, together with a perfect Irish coffee made us feel more than contempt.

The attention of the owners made us feel very welcome and when after a couple of pints, the live music started, we really enjoyed a great evening. Even though that evening the music wasn't the best...

The rooms were spacious and comfortable and we had a very good rest. The breakfast was done to perfection.

All in all, we had a great fun and fantastic night of sleep, so we could carry on touring beautiful Achill Island.
