Nothing bad to say about the hotel, a very nice place to relax. I visited with my family (incl. two children under age 5) and I would definitely visit again. Good for families or couples. Staff was nice and helpful. Food was good at both restaurants. Dinner buffet was plentiful. Rooms were very nice and clean.

Stayed in mid July 2012.

Arrival
Hotel is other side of island to majority of hotels, hence after flight it's a passenger ferry there - which is relaxing and puts you in a good mood. Plus, good chance of upgrade to private transfers, which we had for no extra £ each way.

Rooms
Hotel was lovely, very well kitted out and spotlessly clean. Rooms well equipped and comfortable. Big balcony. Didn't realise until the last night - the rooms have electronic shutters on them, the button is hidden behind the curtains, but it makes the room pitch black and cool in evening. TV not great, basically BBC News and that's it, some radio as well incl radio 1 etc. and note, the TV itself is good quality, just most channels are German.

Food
Reasonable selection. Some nights very nice some okay, nothing to complain about and at least the main dishes changed every night. Ambience not great though - very hustle and bustle. Recommend sitting outside. Waiters nice but head waiter a bit snappy, felt like I irritated him - but to be fair to him, found out on last day from speaking to him that he works an 18hour day so fair enough really. Can take wine in from bar per other reviews, but didnt feel totally comfortable about it as if restaurant staff a bit annoyed at people who did.

Bar
Excellent service, all friendly, good selection except wine which was just house really. Prices a bit steep, but half price happy hour 4pm - 6pm becomes very good value, shame they can't just set the prices in the middle all day?? Also, the pool tables downstairs are mega expensive - €2 a game!!!

Pool
Very nice, perfect temperature, good depth, large, clean, not too busy. Lots of beds, no need to rush away from breakfast! Always 50% of the beds, even poolside, available which was a relief compared to last break in Cuba!!! Beds are good quality and comfortable. Heat is quite intense. A few kids but mainly teenagers - e.g. No screaming

Nearby
There's a mini market down the road where you can buy bottled water at €1 a bottle, crisps, drink, some biscuits. Exit the hotel, turn left, walk for 5 minutes and you get to the beach, after the kefalonia palace hotel - the mini market is there attached to the dolphin restaurant. Beach is ok, red sand which is unusual, stretches for a lot further than you originally think so stick your head down there. Sunbeds belong to restaurant rent a pair for €3 a day with a sunblind and there's table service for drinks, though it takes a while.

Other
Most island taxis and buses are excellent e.g. Merc e-classes all brand new, bus very comfortable. Taxi to town €10 each way. Buses irregular - basically to go to town, €1.60 per person each way, 0930 there and 1430 back and that's it. Catch the ferry to Argostoli. Great to wander around, tourist maps available on boards or for free, walk along the markets to buy some tourist junk, walk along the bay though (exit ferry, turn left) theres a family of wild giant turtles who live near the fishing boats a 10min walk up the marina who loiter for tourists to throw them fish - worth the walk up, trust me. Also, go to assos, fiskardo, drograti caves and melissani lank - you won't be disappointed.

Overall
Hotel is excellent. Some staff in restaurant irritable as it tends to be packed and everyone tripping over everyone but outside of meal time all mellow. Hotel is immaculate. Outdoor cinema with nightly showings, some classic films some new releases. Private art gallery open in the evening worth a visit. Hotel overall excellent and spotless. Would definitely return.

Upon arrival we were met with a warm friendly smile at reception. The love of art of the owner is evident from the first moment. The perfect running of the hotel reflects on the manager who is always there friendly and hepful. The art galery and the little out door cinema make the difference. All the staff is polite and hepfull specially Maria who is just a treusure. We greatly enjoyed the live music in the evenings.Staying at the Apollonion is a memorable experience.

An excellent resort can't praise it highly enough. The staff were friendly attentive and professional throughout the Apollonion. Attention to detail is their moto. The food was outstanding, with chefs available to attend to special dietry requirements.
The rooms were immaculate and furnished tastefully. Cleaning staff made up rooms with fresh towels and bed linen daily.
The facilities available included a must see, Art Gallery and Health and Spa not forgetting a welcoming reception area displaying works of art.
Overall we would love to return.

Room Tip: Ground floors have larger balconies

Great hotel with high standards. Kind staff, very clean and tasteful. Rooms rather noisy, you can hear the neighbours talk. Airco works fine in the room. Breakfast and dinner are good. Prices for drinks are a little to high. Xi Beach is close by (500 mtrs), a great beach for families with kids (sea is not deep, has a sandy shore). Xi is at Paliki, a peninsula. You'll need a rental car or travel by bus/taxi to reach other locations for shopping or sightseeing. Close by is nothing to do, except the bars and minimarket at Xi Beach. We enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Some of the deluxe 2/3 persons rooms have an in-between door to the besided room. Thats for larger f...

This is the first hotel in several years that we have been to that has both a 5 star formal rating, and is really 5 star. The arrival is very relaxing, the reception staff are extremely professional, all the service is immediate and with a smile. We stayed in a family room with 4 beds, the room was relatively smallish, however it was in great condition, completely adequate, with a nice balcony overlooking the pool area, and, most important, the hotel is completely quiet at night. No noisy parties, no disturbances. The room has separate air conditioning on the ground floor and on the gallery, which is very nice. Everything is clean, and staff are very unimposing, there is a relaxed atmosphere at the hotel.

There is a great beach 300 metres from the hotel. We went there with our 4 years old daughter, and there was absolutely no problem to get to the beach and back with her. The beach itself is sandy, nice, with a great bar, with good service, and of course magical Greek waters to swim in.

The hotel has a cinema, an art gallery and a playground for the children, however everything is peaceful and quiet. One does need to rent a car in order to see the island as the hotel is FORTUNATELY located in a relatively remote spot, as the rest of the island is quite undeveloped. Cars can be rented at reasonable prices next door to the hotel, and in just a couple of days one can see the whole island.

There is always room for improvement, of course. In our opinion it is a pity that the pool is with fresh, rather than see water, and that is closes at 6 p.m. The gym is very small and also closes at 6 p.m., for which there is no apparent reason. Films on television are basically non-existent, you need to purchase packages of programme, and they only contain 86 films, including documentaries, most of which last just 12 minutes. No normal television apart from a couple of news channels.

Having said all the above things, this is a great hotel. We would not return simply because we feel that we have seen everything in Keffalonia and would like to see other places, but for those not having visited the island, Apollonion is most definitely the way to go and the best hotel on the island as far as we could judge.

Room Tip: Family rooms or maisonettes are the way to go, they are not much more expensive than normal rooms an...

We have just come back from this hotel after spending a week there.
We were very impressed with the front of house staff, who were always happy to help with whatever you needed. For instance we stayed for 3 nights at first in a suite maissonette with pool, this was wonderfull and just what we needed, just to be on our own in the quiet! Then we asked if we could leave our bags for a week whilst we went sailing and this was not a problem, the were very helpful!!!
We had booked a different room for our return, but yet again they did all they could to get us back to our original room.
Our only grumble is the restaurant, it is more of a canteen with people coming in for an evening meal looking like they have just got out of the pool!!
Some mornings there was also food on the floor as you came in, not what you want to see first thing !
The food was good but waiter service not 5 star, they seemed to at times not know what their jobs were !

Room Tip: Suite maissonettes are great value and perfect if you have kids, their rooms are upstairs and you ha...
