This place was a little hidden gem!!! Only just got round to reviewing it! Hotel was clean the grounds were well kept, we even got shown around the vegetable patch where all the home grown foods are! Good pool size. Rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels in a nice setting. Very quiet and remote. Nikos the owner could not do enough for you! From welcoming us with a beer to booking car rental and just being so accommodating. The food was lovely and very fresh! I will be visiting here again! And Kefalonia ....... such a beautiful island with the friendliest people on earth!! Car rental is not for nervous drivers as the roads on the cliffs can be a little nerve racking!! But worth it for the little hidden pieces of paradise!

We stayed here as a couple for 10 days late September. The price paid was very good value for bed and breakfast. Nikos is a really lovely guy, as many others have said, nothing is too much trouble and he is always there to give any advice or saying hello with a smile.

We initially were showed a room with two single beds (being two guys) but asked for a double bed which Nicos was completely fine with. The rooms are very basic and dated, yes they could do with an update but all the amenities are there. We had a fridge and kettle in our room and AC too. The toilets could have done with a good bleach but the Greek sewage system is a bit basic compared to ours. Our room could have done with a shower holder so we didn't have to hold it every time we showered. The beds were a little hard but nice pillows.

The hotel is set in peaceful surroundings a little outside the town (you definitely need a car unless you don't plan on leaving the hotel). The grounds of the hotel are lovely with lots of fruit trees and the pool area and bar were very clean. We loved hearing the goats in the field next to the pool.

Breakfast was a selection of bread, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, yogurt, preserves, cereal, and fruit. Tea/coffee is also included. The breakfast did get a bit samey after 10 mornings and we would have liked the choice of something hot, but the staff are really lovely and it was a joy to be met by them each morning.

We ate at the hotel restaurant a few times and it was amazing value, with really nice traditional meals. We would recommend the beef stew or meat platter. Perfect with a cold beer! We would definitely return and it was such a relaxing stay, but do not expect luxury and you will not be disappointed. We also miss seeing the cute family of cats that are residents of the hotel too!

Room tip: We stayed in the rooms nearer the back that are on the first floor, which we liked better

We've never been to Kefalonia before, so used Trip Advisor to find the highest rated hotels. The Terra Mare came up and we booked the last 2 weeks in September 2018. The hotel is listed as a 2**, but the service Nicos offers, plus the tasty and plentiful traditional food make up for any shortfalls usually found in the chain hotels. We booked half-board and thoroughly enjoyed the food as our waistlines will testify!

Nicos, and his small team, gave us a fantastic holiday. The weather was fantastic right up until the last couple of days, when we were unfortunate enough to experience the Greek Hurricane, which made the news back home! Obviously this was out of Nicos's control but he tried to ensure the hotel still ran as normal.

Sure the hotel is traditional Greek in many ways, but we felt this added to the charm. Greece has had a really tough time over last 3-4 years, and you do get a feeling about how tough they've had it. I think to pick tiny faults when the people are trying so hard to get back on their feet is unhelpful. I've seen moans on here about no toaster at breakfast, but this is daft you're on holiday, in Greece, expect a Greek breakfast. There's also moans about no flat screen TV, there are TVs in the rooms but we didn't watch ours, why would you you're on holiday, and the views and weather were both spectacular.

Because of the location you do need a car, and Nicos sorted us out with a great deal through a local company. Again because of the location we travelled into Lixouri on lots of days, and either ventured south to the beaches. The best we found was around Xi cape, which was quiet and away from the ranks of sun beds. Or we crossed on the ferry to Agostoli, which was €7 plus car and 2 passengers, or €3-4 on foot. This gave us access to Agostoli which is beautiful with lots to do, or allows shortcuts to the East of the island by road. We enjoyed lots of trips to the mountains, Sami, and the coastal roads in that area.
We didn't get to Asos, as the parking is horrendous and you need to be there really early, or really lucky! Fiscardo is not to be missed and is a real oasis, if you can avoid the crowds. We parked on the slip road down to the ferry, the roads at the top and in the town are a nightmare. You can have that tip for free, and you'll be so grateful!

We will look forward to going back to Terra Mare.

NB happy to answer any questions of this hotel.

The service you receive from Nikos is second to none. Returning after a day or night out feels like you’re returning home and can always count on a welcome from him. Nikos is full of recommendations and very helpful The hotel is great for what you pay, I actually left feeling like I should have payed more than I did. I would return in a heart beat.

Simply magical - Nicos and his staff went out of their way to make our stay extra special. Terra Mare is a real peaceful haven oozing wonderful Greek hospiltality. One week simply wasn’t long enough! We absolutely loved every minute!
We hired a car with Nicos’s help and enjoyed Petani and Xi beaches with a trip to Fiskgardo and Assos.during the days with the hotel pool being a genuine sanctuary after hours. It felt like coming home to return to Terra Mare each evening. Thank you for your warm welcome and wonderful personal hospitality. It was so hard to leave! ❤️
