Owner description: Set in a landscape of rolling hills about 100 m above the River Elbe lies Gross-Sedlitz Baroque Garden. In this spacious garden visitors can still promenade as in the days of Augustus the Strong. The original style of a French garden has merged with Italian influences, forming a truly unusual garden, in which visitors will find a variety of fountains, flower beds, sculptures and orangeries in an individual and yet harmonious combination.

“The most beautiful garden”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We went there by train S1 from Dresden Bahnhof to the station Heidenau - Grossedlitz, than we crossed the main road and there we walked for 18 minutes Old Married Couples Walk to the gardens. If you have Dresden Card you have 20% discount, we paid 6,40 Euro for two people and also the train fare is covered by the card.It is the most beautiful garden we have seen so far. You could walk there for hours and feel like in the fairy tale. The trees are nicely planted, you walk in their shade in part of the way. There are more than 60 sandstone sculptures and vases in front of the rows of hedges, in the grounds or in niches.

“Best baroque garden architecture in Germany”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

On our way driving to Dresden we decided to take in the hilly region of Sachsische Schweiz. Our guidebook indicated a baroque garden along the route so we decided to drop by. What a great garden, apparently in the middle of no-where. This location was a summer residence of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. The gardens are said to be the best example of baroque garden architecture in Germany. Obviously there are parallels to be drawn with the gardens of Versailles.

The gardens were for a long time in a state of disrepair. In the course of the last twenty years significant progress with restoration has been made. The number of flowerbeds is relatively few but the layout of the garden is clear, the stone work is beautiful, including a myriad of statues, and the fountains are in working order. This past week was glorious weather in Germany and a wander through the gardens and fountains was a beautiful way to greet Spring.

Relying on signage is not a guaranteed way to find this place, so having an address and GPS is pretty much a must.

There is a cafe at the gardens serving the usual refreshments and meals.
