I stayed for two nights as a solo traveler in July 2012. The Meeresgruß is in a good location on the edge of the small but quaint old town. It is only 5 minutes walk down to the water's edge, 3 minutes walk to the High Street and approximately 20 minutes walk to Sassnitz Hbf. The rooms facing the water have a lovely view across the Baltic Sea. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The Meeresgruß building dates back to the 1890's and has been nicely renovated. The rooms are clean. I stayed in a "Hafen" class room which included a balcony complete with outdoor table and chairs, which was a lovely spot to sit in the afternoon and enjoy the sea.
A breakfast buffet was included in the price. The breakfast room offered both indoor and outdoor seating. The buffet offered a modest selection of breads, cereals, fruit, cheeses and meats, and was inline with what you would expect from any three-star hotel. The fruit was past it prime which was disappointing as July offers a great variety of fresh fruits in Europe.
If you enjoy walking you can follow the walking trail from the east of Sassnitz to Königsstuhl through the Jasmund National Park, then onto Lohme where you can catch the bus back to Sassnitz.
