In the great scheme of international hotels the best I can offer is three stars, BUT that is not the target market. This hotel offers excellent value for money and without doubt is one of the cleanest hotels I have visited. Staff are courteous and friendly, overcoming any language barriers, the rooms are perhaps a little dated in style, or is that me judging by US/UK standards of decor? The beds are comfortable and everything is very clean, the linen has an old fashioned crispness I enjoyed.
The bathrooms are quite superb, again everything is spotless and gleaming, the towels fresh and real soap provided, not dispensers. The daily clean is to the same exacting standard. A word to the wise, you will have to learn to drive the windows! Turn the knob one way and it opens from the top, twist the other way it opens from the side, cunning eh!
Of course there are times that you may not wish to open the windows, being so near to the station the local youth does congregate at night and can be very rowdy (see previous reviews). Not the hotel's fault but it can be a distraction from a good night's sleep.
Parking is plentious and free, and a short walk will get you right into the town centre so the hotel is a great place if visiting. With free internet in the foyer you can catch up on local and international news and research local amenities.
Finally the breakfast, what a joy! Real tea made yourself from boiling water, plentious coffee and refills on demand, everything was there except a "full english" but only a xenophobe would expect that when visiting. All our party tucked in heartily with no complaints. This is served in an airy, light and spacious breakfast room
It is a little disappointing that the main restaurant area has been sublet to a seperate franchisee. Whilst their product is good and at a reasonable price it is confusing to return after 10pm to see the closed sign on the door and restaurant staff enjoying a "late one" whilst puffing away merrily on their fags. This is hardly conducive to business and not vey welcoming presuming they were open, and this the Friday night of the "Altstadtfest"
My conclusion? A great little hotel I would happily return to. Unpretentious, not aspiring to 4 or 5 stars but provides precisely what you could reasonably expect for the price with the highest of hygiene and cleanliness. BUT the new owners will need to sort out arrangements with the restaurant operators if they are to offer a seamless service.
