We stayed here for one night during our TMB. Location is convenient, on the main road, yet not too busy.
On the up side the hotel has two lovely pools, which we well took advantage of and the bar/lounge area is very pleasant. The restaurant and food were excellent.
On the other hand the rooms are quite outdated and small, as well as the corridors in the main building.
All in all we had a very nice stay and liked the hotel.

We spent a weekend 6/2012 in one of the chalet apartments with five adults and two infants The staff was very helpful with providing whatever we needed. Although there is a very nice dining room, it was impractical for us to dine there after a late arrival with infants on Friday, so the chef made us a wonderful dinner to take to our apartment. Throughout our stay the staff was always eager to help us when asked. The Sunday morning breakfast/brunch buffet was abundant and delicIous.
The apartment was comfortable and had beautiful views from the porches on two sides. The indoor pool area is very pleasant, and there are outdoor areas for both children and adults.

Room Tip: I recommend the chalet apartments.

Nice, very friendly staff but the hotel itself needs a face-lift. The 3-bed room was small and the curtains shabby. The free hotel minibus to the nearby lifts works well. The pool is very nice after a day on the slopes, as is the sauna, which wasn't always turned on. The breakfasts are good and we were encouraged to take some for a packed lunch on the slopes, which saved a lot and was great.
Skiing in Les Houches was very good. The bus into Chamonix works well but the bus drivers were very rude and unhelpful, taking pleasure in giving no or misleading information, even in French.
The ChamExpress transfer from Geneva airport is excellent and their office is across the road from the Hotel du Bois.

Room Tip: Ask for one looking over the back, not in the front of the hotel.

A lovely, clean, friendly hotel. The staff are really helpful and there is a lovely feeling to the hotel. Rooms are not huge, but are well equipped and clean, with nice bathrooms and fluffy towels. Reception can arrange for a minibus transfer to the lifts in the morning and the skibus stops close by in the evening. The skiing in Les Houches is perfectly suited to families as well.

I didn't know what to expect from the Hotel du Bois as some of the reviews on here seemed negative but I have to say that this is one of the most fantastic holidays I've ever had.
We aren't skiers so I can't comment on whether the location is good for ski-ing but there seemed to be a lot of skiers staying there who looked happy enough!
From the moment we arrived it was very straightforward and friendly - Nathalie on reception was friendly and efficient.
Our room was perfectly adequate - in fact it was better than I'd expected. We only booked a standard room, in the room was a fridge with beer, water and coke in it and plenty of room to put your own drinks if you wanted (or cheese!) We had a balcony and our view was of the road however in such a gorgeous location it wasn't a bad view! The bathroom was clean and had bath, shower, hairdryer and we also had a big wardrobe in the room. For 3 nights over Christmas it was perfect.
The lounge area is fabulous - full of comfy sofas and chairs and big wooden coffee tables. There's a huge wood burner whcih keeps the room lovely and warm and the prices for drinks are pretty good for that area (3.50E for a glass of wine, 4E for a hot wine, 6E for a cocktail) The background music was not intrusive and was a great selection and there's a big screen showing ski-ing and other events. We were able to play cards and other games and didn't feel rushed. Altogether very relaxing! We were half board and the food was great. On the evening we booked one of the 3 sittings each night 7.15, 8.40 or 9.15 I think were the times. It was a choice of a 3 course buffet or you can pre-order one of the Savoyard specialities - we had the fondue one evening and it was fantastic. The buffet has a great selection, is very high quality and there's good veggie choice as well as meat and fish. Breakfast was typical continental buffet and was served over a good time period. We had a swim in the indoor pool while we were there which was great - it's about 15 metres in length so perfectly adequate for a dip, and the sauna was also very relaxing.
Les Houches was a lovely place to spend a few days with various restaurants, bars and shops to wander round- there's also a great bus service into Chamonix and other areas - which is free with the little card the reception gives you.
I have absolutely no bad comments about this hotel - it was great, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
My husband and I will definitely come back to stay at the Hotel du Bois - I'd also be interested in a Summer trip as there's an outdoor swimming pool as well as the indoor one.

Arrived to find the car park full and people fighting over spaces.

Waited a long time for anyone to appear at reception to book us in. friendly service once someone did appear.
The outside photos make ug look like the hotel stands on it's own whereas it's in the middle of a busy street. The pool pictures also do nit reflect the small dip pool available bed was comfy and all right for a nod night stopover bug arrive early if you want a parking space!
