We stopped for lunch on recommendation from our hotel. The restaurant is in a cave and it looks great, also the food is very good. My wife had with fish and I had pork, both very good. Also they had some great cheese plates.

We made the hike across from our place in Chinon because it seemed a unique venue for dinner on a Saturday night. the place was very busy and bustline and we were given a nice side table - the restuarant has different areas, that bring out it's cave character to different degrees.

I should say I wasn't struck quite so much that I was dining in a cave - far too civilised but also the direct environment was similar to a large limestone walled cottage, but for some really interesting details (carvings in one wall, back rooms with more natural inclines). But a lovely place and the food was - as everywhere in our travels in Loire - great!

Some interesting sights on the way into town also, of impressive cave structures.

Fascinating place but the food is very ordinary. It advertises that it uses recipes from long ago If that is so then I don't think people eat out much long ago!

Arrived here not knowing anything about it except it was a troglodyte restaurant. Much to our delight and dismay the food they served was some of the best we'd had in France. Dismay as we didn't have enough room in our bellies to eat more than we did! We both had an entree of a celery mousse wrapped in Charlotte ham, served on a bed of quinoa and hazelnuts. It was delicious. Desert was a baked banana upside down cake with chocolate and ice cream, and a melt in the mouth chocolate cake with lightly cinnamon spiced toffee shards and a glazed baked banana. With a glass of wine the bill came to EU 35, which for the quality of the food was really reasonable. Only one waiter who was kept going, but really attentive and friendly.

A lot of good places dont serve lunch, but L'Helianthe was absolutely amazing!!!!! What an cute place with great service, amazing food! 2 hours later after starters, entree, desert and bottle of wine we were in heaven.... Worth any ride and money!!!!!
