We traveled with 11 children, two families, and rented both gites. Our accomodations were an oasis in the desert after such a long journey from the U.S. We enjoyed the gites and the Normandy area immensely. We hiked, ziplined, and took sight seeing excursions to many prime French sites, Mont St. Michel, Chinon, Chinonceau, Normandy beaches and museum in Caen, and many trips to Paris. It was a wonderful blend of country life and sight-seeing. Our hosts were very accomodating and the gites are tastefully renovated to maintain the character of Normand style architecture.

We stayed at the smaller of the 2 houses (3 double bedrooms)and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The house is well designed and the quality of finish and furnishing was very good The house was very clean and the gardens nicely laid out with plenty of places to sit either in the shade or sun. Unfortunately when we were there there was no sun.
The surrounding country side is lovely walking country and we would recommend spending some time in Domfront.
There are plenty of places to visit within easy driving distance though Mont St Micheal is over rated..
We will return at some time hopefully with more family to try out the 5 bed house.

The owners, Joy and Colin were fantastic hosts and we look forward to meeting them again.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet but still relatively close to the French ports, the gites at Le Petit Lac are your place! As a family of four just looking for some time away with a few good books and a pack of cards, Le Torchis was the perfect place to go. Close enough to Domfront to get our daily baguettes but far away enough to feel like we were deep in the Normandy countryside, this was an ideal location. The gite was incredibly clean - spotless, in fact - and had ample space for the four of us to do whatever we wanted. With gardens at the rear and plenty of walks starting from the front door, this is exactly what we needed. Local shopping in Domfront was perfect as was a small but surprisingly good choice of nearby restaurants. Further afield, we went to Le Mont St Michel, Bagnoles de l'Orne and Mortain - three very good places to go during our seven day stay.

The owners are on site but extremely inconspicuous - full of information about the area and nothing was too much trouble.

We would thoroughly recommend it!

We were met by the proud owners (Joy & Colin a lovely couple)who enthused about the property (justifiably) whilst we were shown around. A small welcome pack including homemade jam was a lovely touch. This is an ideal and peaceful gite near to the pretty town of Domfront (dont just drive through it get out and walk through the old town.) The gite is very close to Brittany and also the Loire both within 20-30 miles as well as the "Normandy Region" affording greater touring options. Mont St Michel is a must. Although our two weeks werent the best weatherwise the outside covered area meant we could still have barbecues and eat in the rain without getting wet. However when the sun did shine there is a lovely secluded garden and plenty of chairs to sunbathe. The property is well maintained and very clean. The owners who live in the converted barn opposite were on hand when needed but very discreet at all times(sometimes didnt see them for days). Although there is no washing machine we made use of hand washing and were allowed a drying line in the covered area which suited us well. Tv reception is poor so we made use of our laptop and DVD's some of which were the owners. There is a small tv and video/dvd player for those without PC. I would highly recommend this Gite (there is larger one next door) which we looked in and was also decorated to a high standard. We didnt get to see the Barn Owl but our neighbours did and just couldnt find where the woodpecker was hiding. The owners horses and "wild rabbits" are an attraction to young children. For those wanting a christmas away from it all I think these properties would be ideal. There is central heating which we didnt have to use though. Im suprised that theres any spare weeks here but just dont tell anybody!

Our extended family of 12 ranging from 5 years old to 60 plus occupied these two lovely Gites for one week in July 2008. We ALL had a great time, which was in no small way due to the delightful, spacious and very clean accommodation and the friendly atmosphere created by the attentive owners, who live nearby. The website photos give a very clear picture of what visitors can expect.to find when they arrive. Our expectations were met fully.
