“Perfect for a large family holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

We have just returned from staying at the Gite De Pierre, two famalies and a set of Grandparents, and I can not recommend this Gite enough. All the rooms are large and feels very spacious, the Gite had everything we needed and more. The hosts Colin and Joy at hand to answer any queries before travel and during our stay. This is a lovely area to explore, a lovlely man made beach at la ferte mace with a play area and a lake to walk round, we spent a day here, an open air swimming pool, men don't forget your speedos as shorts not allowed. All in all a great time had by all made perfect by the wonderful Gite.

Le Petit Lac is situated about 3kms from Domfront (where you can find the baker, supermarkets, etc). There is a man made beach and a spa town about 20 minutes away, the kids loved both. There is plenty to do in the area, but you will need to drive a fair bit. Saying that the countryside is lovely and the roads quiet.
The accomodation is well maintained, very clean with great showers. We had 6 adults and two children in our group, there was more than enough space for all to find a quiet area if needed.
The children loved walking down the lane/track to see the cows and feeding polos to Colin and Joy's horses.
In summary, we had a great holiday and would go back.

We stayed in the larger gite in 2009 with 7 adults and 2 children. We have just returned from our second stay, in the smaller gite with 5 adults and 2 children (now age 2 and 5). We appreciate Colin and Joy's hospitality, and the accommodation is great. The area is so peaceful, yet Domfront is only 5 minutes in the car. The area provides plenty to do - we returned to Chemin de fer Miniature in Clecy for a half day of train activities. We also enjoyed the velocycles just south of Clecy in Pont L'Erambourg for a 12km trip on the old railway line. Bagnoles, not far from Domfront, is a pretty town providing mini-golf, pedal boats, shops and park area, and restaurants. The weather was not fantastic this time, but the smaller gite provides a covered area which we used for BBQs, eating out and drying washing. Thanks to Colin and Joy for a lovely holiday (and for the pears and marrows!)

This was our first visit to Normandy since 2002 prior to which we regularly stayed in this area for the summer break and have a good knowledge of the locality. Colin and Joy have developed a "quality" offer in a wonderful location close to local amenities but also far enough away from to provide a peaceful and relaxing environment. The accommodation is very family friendly as well as being extremely spacious and well equipped. We had two 15 year old boys and they also appreciated having their own space and had a great time exploring the local forest.

We certainly intend to return and will probably bring other family members as there is so much space to accommodate large groups with ease.

We had such a lovely holiday here in August last year, we returned again this April.

9 of us (4 adults and 5 children) stayed at the larger gite - Gite De Pierre.

The weather was very kind to us for our week, and we enjoyed lots of sunshine.

The accommodation was as good as we remember it from last year. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well maintained. We are quite fussy travellers, but would highly recommend these gites.

Colin and Joy are the perfect hosts. Not at all intrusive - but always on hand should you need their help (a big thank you to Colin for helping when my car broke down! - excellent service from the local garage got me going again in no time).

There are lots of places to visit in this area - all within easy driving distance.

La Ferte-Mace has a huge lake and man made beaches. Great for water sports, walks, bike rides, or just lazing on the beach.

Other places we would highly recommend are Bagnoles de l'Orne, Fougeres, and the Wednesday market at Saint Hilaire du Harcouet. Domfront itself is very interesting and steeped in history.

There are a couple of theme parks within driving distance to keep the kids happy. Warning - check their opening dates outside of season. We didn't, and arrived to a closed park and some very disappointed kids !!

Also, an absolute must is the local pizza restaurant on the way into Domfront, and you cannot visit this region without sampling the local Cider (hic).

Thank you to Colin and Joy from the Crossley Family ! We hope to see you again in the future.

We have just enjoyed a very pleasant week in the smaller of the 2 gites. Colin and Joy made us feel very welcome and their communication was excellent. The accomodation was spotlessly clean and very warm, although we personally would have preferred to have had some curtains as it can become quite chilly in the evenings. Our 6 year old daughter loved to watch the horses and the rabbits. Domfront is a great area in which to stay, with plenty to do and lots of good restaurants.

Unfortunately we brought the British weather with us on the week we stayed but this did not spoil our apreciation for the quality of the accomodation. With a great openess to the property, it was ideal for our party which consisted of 8 adults and 5 children all under 6. The outside area provided a safe and private area for both the kids and 'big kids' to run around in. The bed rooms provided a wow factor with there beautiful and spacious layouts.
each offering quite different/unique appeal and having plenty of privacy thrown in. Colin and Joy are very helpful but never intrusive. We suggest you look no further for a large gite in normandie.
