“Ideal for stopover”

Though not particularly special from outside this is a charming French hotel. It has its own individual character in an interesting building, the room we had was spacious and clean, and the meal in the attached grill was well presented and charmingly served. The parkland behind the hotel is a very pleasant addition for a stroll after the meal. Breakfast was unspectacular - but what do you want from breakfast? The town of Domfront has a very attractive old quarter with plenty of historical links and the (now) small church a couple of minutes' walk from the hotel is also full of interest. As a stopping point on the way to or from the ferry this is an ideal spot.

Room Tip: Lots of stairs to higher floors - perfectly manageable but could be a problem if your mobility is li...

Our stay was fine in this typically french hotel, decor is a bit dated but exceptionally clean, we had a good sized room at the back overlooking the gardens. It was very quiet, the bathroom was clean with a new shower. Not a swish modern hotel but more than acceptable for the price 70 euros including breakfast . The grill is a good place for food which is cooked on a large open charcoal grill. We would definitely stay herre again. Staff are very friendly but speak little English.

As some of the previous reviews have stated, beware of the pricing 'system'. We recently stayed at this hotel, which we booked through the Logis website. We were quoted €69 per night for the room. On arrival, our reservation had not been passed to the hotel by Logis (even though we had our email confirmation). We were given a room, and the lady actually showed us the price of the room on the wall - €52, and we accepted the room. When we checked out, after 4 nights, we were still charged the full €69. When queried, the receptionist said we need to take it up with Logis, as it was their booking! we have emailed Logis twice, and the hotel directly (twice), and we cannot even get a reply to our emails. I have stayed at this hotel previously as a single traveller, but after this experience, never again. If they are so hard up for a few more Euro's, they can have them, but it will be the last they get off us.

Although there was an issue about the price of the room on checking out - their fault not ours - the stay was perfectly acceptable. The accommodation was modern and clean, and though we had dogs, we weren't put in some second-rate room. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the evening meal in The Grill was absolutely fine in a very nice atmosphere. All at not unreasonable prices, and for those with dogs, an area behind the hotel where a limited amount of exercise could be given.

We loved the people and the situation. - the staff couldn't have done enough for us, and were polite and welcoming from our first arrival. We only booked two days in advance and requested a twin room, and a quiet one, both of which requests were met. We had a room which looked out over the back gardens down to the river, (which merited a walk in the evenings.)
However our disappointment was the tiny size of the room, with plain basic furniture, worthy of a school dorm. We could hardly move around the beds without bumping into each other. The toilet was fine (no extraordinary noises or suction machines!!) but the main shower room was grubby, and smelt damp, due to the lack of an extractor fan. Thus there were black marks on the walls, and poor standard of tiling in the shower. The room decor was dull and overall could have done with a lick of bright paint and some pictures. Howewver, the beds were comfortable and we did get a good nights sleep. I had the feeling that this room was not used very often, or was used as an overflow room, so this may have been the case. Yes there were the odd one or two flies, but there are flies everywhere in France in August, so we carry fly spray in our car, which we used.
We didn't bother asking for a change, as we are fairly tolerant travellers, and have stayed in a lot worse, in all parts of the world. As we were there for only two nights, sleep was more important to us. But would have requested a move if were were there longer.

We enjoyed the meals in the grill room on both evenings, and the pricing system was explained to us. We thought the cost was very reasonable. Would we stay again?? yes, but would book further in advance and make sure we had one of the bigger rooms at the back.
