We went to the Marchenwandermeile early July 2013 just before the touristic high season really started. For kids this is a nice adventure walk.
I can recommend to park your car at the village center down in the valley, they have a nice large parking area. You pay at the touristic office and from the village center you take the train up to the mountain. You can best immediately pay for the trip up and down the mountain and the passing of the suspension bridge.
The walk overall was fun for the kids. Many simple but nice things to do like a memory game or throwing cones over. It's good if kids know there classic fairy tales as you will pass several display or even life animation. At several points you will get some nice views.
If you are scared of height or have an instability problem, the suspension bridge might be a challenge.
The only disappointment: we didn't see any animals. Normally there is a little kids farm with chicken, pony's, a pig, ... but didn't see any of these.
The walk itself was fun and the kids weren't bored. At the end of the walk while you wait on the shuttle you can have a rest and eat something. We did the walk from Zlatting towards Altersberg and had a nice lunch at Familiengasthof Preis.
And for the geocachers amongst us, there is a fairly easy cache hidden at the Indian village. See geocaching.com for the coordinates.
