This is a beautiful onsen hotel. Big garden, long walkway just like staying in a forest. Our room is huge, facing a garden directly and come with a massage chair. We like the room very much and enjoying walking around the hotel to take photos.

However, there are 2 areas need improvements:
1: The blankets provided at night were too heavy. It somehow affected the sleeping quality.
2: The kaiseki dinner taste was just average. The hotel chef needs improve his/her cooking skills.
Hope this hotel can making efforts to improve the food taste.

This was a truly stunning property with exquisite rooms and gardens surrounding the property.

Location: Fairly convenient location with a local loop bus stop just a 5 to 6 minutes walk from the hotel. A large Lawson supermarket also within a 5 minutes walk. One stop away from the famous Natadera Temple, and a comfortable 20 minutes walk away from the town centre. Not many shops around the area, this is clearly a residential property. A daily morning shuttle bus takes you to the central JR station.

Rooms: Stunning, well maintained and updated. Unlike some older Japanese hotels, this hotel has kept itself updated. Modern Japanese style. Extremely comfortable.

Amenities & Public Space: Sprawling grounds means you can expect exquisite gardens, mini-waterfalls, two different hot springs in different annexes of the hotel, complimentary refreshments in the library and relaxation corner. A truly relaxing stay.

Food: Well prepared food. Noticeable streak in the chef's style in trying to incorporate some European influences e.g. an oyster soup with a puff pastry top. The photos speak for themselves.

Staff & Service: Friendly, but slightly stiff Japanese service. Some of the English speaking staff really go all out to make one feel comfortable. Others are less confident. Had absolutely no problems emailing the hotel and getting certain things sorted out. They would even pick you up from the station if you let them know your precise arrival.

Overall: Would definitely return to this property if I ever travel to Kagaonsen/ Yamashiro again. It was a wonderful experience.

Room tip: Most rooms are beautiful, overlooking the gardens.

Nice onsen delicious food. They really prepared well my requested vegetarian meal. The most disappointed there is no wifi inside the room but you can have wifi in the lounge. But overall I really enjoy the stay in Morino Sumika

They have beautiful rooms in the mountains, the most beautiful rooms we have seen in Japan so far. It is a ryokan style grand hotel. Big building with many rooms, less cozy. However, we were disappointed that the food is not great. Indoor onsen is good, but outdoor onsen is not good, it is actually covered by blinds, no view at all, so just an extension of indoor onsen. AND, there's no internet!
