We knew what we were going to get and there's nothing wrong with that. Schotia is a fenced off area where all animals are deliberately bought and placed. As the guides know the area and they inform each other, there are (almost) guaranteed sightings of most important animals. We saw a couple of giraffes and rhinos and the group of lions. It's like a huge zoo with the idea of a big national park. Our guide, by the way, was very good and had a lot of humour. We combined Schotia with the parks of Addo, Kruger and iSimangaliso which takes more time to see animals, but with better satisfaction. But the experience of the Schotia lion group walking at two meters of our car was priceless! I'd say Schotia is perfect for families with kids who can't afford to drive around without seeing much.

wonderful small private reserve offering a real "bush safari" experience. schotia seems positioned between luxury, exclusive (and expensive) safaris and sanpark (government run) reserves. for the amount one spends at schotia, one receives much more than expected! the amount of close encounters with game we had was amazing, less than 50cm from a pack of lion playing! the night drives always are special, this one included. very close to hippo feeding and scarily close to lion!!

everything is very organised and although you can choose to partake (for example in the night drive and early morning drive) there is little flexibilty but schotia caters for everyone's tastes. our tracker Carl was incredibly knowledgeable and professional, taking us up close while seeming to keep is all out of harm's way. picture leaning on the bank of a water hole in pitch black starry african night looking for hippo, while two crocs eye us in the water!

stay in the honeymoon suites if you can, immersed in the bush lit only by candles and gas lamps!

Room Tip: the homestead is the owner's home. even though they are very welcoming and considerate, if you don't feel comfortable sharing someone's actual home, opt for the orlando lodge or honeymoon suites (only for two people but very lovely).

Schotia is a fantastic nice and well-managed game reserve where the animals live a wild life on the premises of nature.

We were warmly welcomed already in the reception. Well informed about what was going to happen and all other things we needed to know. Just one question – why doesn’t the girl in the reception “live the brand” and get dressed like all others (Rangers) on the farm? A bit strange feeling to meet a girl out in the wild, dressed like she just arrived from downtown.

The game drives were several and very exciting. Our Ranger Nic stretched them out both in time and in the way he did his best to let us see the animals as close as possible. He also shared his great knowledge about the animals and the wild life.

The dinner and breakfast that was served in the Lapa was good all though this felt more organized than sitting for example around a big fire. But this was of course more effective and timesaving.

Our accommodation, in a family room, was great. Waking up in the morning with all horses (that are used for the horseback safaris) walking outside the door was wonderful.

After seeing all those trip adviser reviews about Schotia, we booked a one-night, two day safari including Addo.
We were really lucky and had Carl as a guide for the Schotia part. Best guide ever, we loved his subtle sense of humor and his impressive knowledge and stories about each animal. Lion, rhinoceros, turtoise, giraffe, zebra, termite and many more, we felt like we got to know them all.
As for Schotia itself we were really happy we went. Good value for money. We did three drives through the park on the first day (ending about 22.30) and another morning drive the following day. The accomodation was really nice and truly amongst the animals.
Addo elephant park was also great. We saw heaps of elephants (also zebras, warthogs and jackalls) and gosh, they are cute.

I am not sure I can express how much we enjoyed our time at Schotia Safari. From our arrival on the wrong day which our hosted sorted with no fuss at all to an excellent guide who knowledge and enthusiasm was top notch. Accommodation was wonderful, comfy, clean and welcoming but 90% of our time was spent on game drives and they were drives we will never forget, especially the night safari after dinner.
The organisation is second to none, slick from arrival to departure with hands-on management from the Bean family guiding every part of the operation.
Not sure what they could do to improve it.
