Went with friends and had the best time of our lives. We went snorkeling and canoe-ing as our activities, but otherwise swam and tanned on the 2 private beaches. Staff was very nice and accommodating with nice local food cuisine food options. Our time was so good that we decided to extend our trip by an extra day to truly appreciate the relaxation time. Just be prepared to bring your passport so you can avoid paying the local tax rates.

Look no more, among all resorts and island options Majagua is by far the best of all in every sense. I went with my friends during a season when there were not many tourists around, so we have the entire place for ourselves for the most part. People were nice and kind all the time, both the locals and the resort staff, so we decided to book an additional night while we were still there.

Go snorkeling, scuba diving, and take a canoe exploration trip through the mangrove, then return by walking so you can visit the community.

Be ready to be indulged with the rich food menu options all come from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

You won't believe your eyes, believe me.

Room Tip: Far from reception, but there actually aren't any rooms in that area, just avoid being near the...

We arranged a day tour to the Rosario Island through our hotel and spent the day at the Hotel San Pedro de Majagua. When we arrived , we were met with a refreshing drink and a quick orientation. The water activities were run by Diving Planet. I went diving and my wife and our 20 year old daughter and friend went snorkeling. The snorkeling was wonderful and the diving was good. We had lunch at the hotel with a choice between broiled or fried snapper. Everyone had a great lunch and a drink before we headed back to Cartagena. Be aware, the boat trip is an hour each way. Right side of the boat towards the front is best for those that don't want to get soaked. While this trip is a little more than others, we believed it was worth it.

I went to San Pedro de Majagua for a day trip with friends and we were allowed to use a guest room for the day. Though the place does not have sandy beaches, the snorkeling in that area through the reefs is a good way to spend the day. They also havers lagoon, where at night, the plankton lights up. It is a beautiful place. The rooms are nice. It is not 5-star, the cell phone signal is bad and here is only one place on the island where there is Internet access, so this. S definitely a place to go and disconnect.
The chef is Peruvian and uses only fresh, local ingredients, nothing frozen to make Colombian fare. The food was great, especially compared to other attractions near by. The rate includes the speedboat transportation to and from the island from Cartagena, as well as lunch. One can pick fish or lobster. They also have chicken and vegetarian options and they are happy to tailor based on your needs. The people are friendly. The service is slow, but it doesn't matter since we were there to relax.
Worth the trip. Expect a more rustic, laid back experience!

Reading other reviews it is important to first understand what this property is not: a brand new chain hotel in a downtown U.S. city. Comparing it to such or expecting the same is just wrong.

This hotel is a boutique resort, run by very pleasant local Columbian people, on a small island, in the Caribbean sea. The setting is beautiful if Spartan; the 18 suites (individual buildings, a pair of units per) are nestled under the canopy of large cypress trees. As such, there aren't manicured, irrigated lawns anywhere. It is very nice, clean and with stone walkways everywhere.

There are two small beaches with tiers of padded chaises. Towel and drink service is provided. One beach gets more sun in the morning, the other in the afternoon, which is perfect. Snorkeling near shore on the reefs is spectacular.

The rooms are very nice. Clean, great beds, nice detail. You are in hurricane country in a very humid, tropical climate, so there is more concrete than wood, but everything is painted and the residences have attractive thatched roofs and ceilings.

Service is great. We wanted for nothing and every staff member was delightful to interact with.

Restaurant is also great. Remember, you are there to experience local cuisine so you will not find pizza or wings on the menu. Lots of fresh fish but also great pasta and beef. Not a huge menu but they will always take good care of you so just ask (e.g. we had grilled lobsters one evening even though they were not listed on the menu).

If you are adventurous I highly recommend walking to the other end of the island to the bird sanctuary. You will walk through the tiny local villages which may be a striking contrast to what you are accustomed to seeing, but again the people are delightful and helpful in showing you the way, and the sanctuary is a very cool experience with LOTS of birds.

Finally, lots of people complain about the locals swarming you and trying to sell you stuff. First, it is part of the local culture. Second, it is how many of them make a living. Third, they are all very polite and understand "gracias, no." It is a great way to strike up a two minute conversation with some of the local people and learn a bit about their island home and their country. I think we met every one of them at some point on the first day, and just said hello to them during the rest of our stay as they knew we weren't prospects. Don't be afraid, don't feel pressured, and most of all don't be rude. Simple formula.

Room Tip: Bring your sunscreen etc. because there is no store on the island

If you've got time to negotiate a better price, you've found a "nice" place...

on the paper it looks fine, but reality is different :
+
nice island, nice view, close to Carthagena
People working here ar kind

-
guys non stop trying to sell you someting on the beach
"charter" speed boats arriving at 10AM from Carthagena with tourists staying all day on the 2 private beaches (seems an agreement with tour operators), difficult to find a place.
cleanless of the hotel
Too much expensive (220 USD for a night !)
refered by Santa Clara and most of the people think they're part of it, but it's false
food after 2 days is enough (menue looks fine trying to sell elaborate food but it's far from that)
Don't go to the aquarium; its just a shame how dolphins and sharks are treated...
