Found this via trip advisor after visiting the Housesteads Roman fort on Hadrian’s Wall. Need a place for lunch and this was spot on, great food and quiet.

Stopped at this place on a whim whilst on holiday in the area, having seen the sign at the side of the road.
I’m sorry to say that the food was disappointing. Soup was lukewarm & tasteless and the very basic sandwich was uninviting - similar to one intended for a fussy child’s lunchbox. For the price paid, we expected a bit more.
There is one toilet for customers & it was desperately in need of a thorough clean. The toilet bowl itself was awful, the hand soap had run out & the ancient electric hand dryer would not function. There was a filthy looking blue hand towel hanging right beside the toilet bowl for all to use. Needless to say, our jeans did the trick instead.
Such a shame, the waitress was very friendly and the garden beautiful however we wouldn’t return or recommend.

We stayed here after booking.com cancelled our nearby booking without informing us but the way it turned out, we could not be more pleased. We booked with about 5 minutes notice and were welcomed immediately. The garden here is beautiful and great to sit in on a warm afternoon with a glass of wine from the honesty bar.
We had an observatory experience booked in Wark and got a lift there and back at the times we needed for £4 each way. Breakfast was good quality and included fresh fruit, juices, cereals, coffee and a full English.
Overall this was a very nice if short stay and I would happily return if in the area.

We were the only ones in the garden when we called - it was a lovely place to eat. The food was OK and it was good value.

One or two suggestions - Ploughmans Lunch had no bread and no apple and a hunk of cheese would have been better than a couple of meagre triangular thin slices. Charge a pound extra and make it a proper Ploughmans!

We will certainly come again and hope to add that final star. 4 out of 5 ain't bad, though. We enjoyed it.
