Me, my husband and our daughter of 15 stayed at this beautiful townhouse in Thezan for four days. The stay was an adventure.
The house itself is wonderful, very cosy and decorated with antiques but at the same time very comfy regarding bedding and cooking.
We loved the bakery few steps away from the house with wonderful baguettes and croissants. We visited the wineries, medieval villages such as Lagrasse, Narbonne and Carcassonne and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Best regards to our host, Diane. We enjoyed the rose wine we "found" in the fridge when we arrived and you gave us a very good welcoming information.
Regards from Gudrun, Gummi and Tinna (Iceland)
We were very warmly greeted by Diane (the owner) after a wearisome journey down by car who very kindly stocked the fridge with some essentials and goodies for us to nibble and drink on our first day. A pleasant surprise! The gite is beautifully decorated and has all the comforts you will need for your stay, with a newly added bonus of having WiFi.
The village is very quaint, with several shops for essentials if you are caught short. Very good opportunities to practice your french with the locals too! For larger food shopping, there are a few hyper-markets only 10 minutes down the road. And, if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, the food market in Narbonne has a huge array of fresh produce.
We travelled around the area by car, visiting a lot of the recommended places such as Carcasonne, Peyrepertuse, Lagrasse, Ribaute and Narbonne. Exploring by car is a very good way to see the stunning views and historic sites as they can be quite out of the way (Peyrepetuse especially - but well worth it!). We found the river beaches a nice way to relax after exploring historical sites as the beaches were particularly windy during our stay. Sun cream and gusts of sand were not a good mixture.
We had a great time and would recommend it to anyone!!

We spent an enjoyable week in this little village house. We would recommend it with one reservation - we would advise European travellers not book this (or any other holiday apartment) through HolidayLettings.co.uk because their prices are in Sterling. We discovered too late that our Euros would be exchanged into Sterling with a surcharge... .that too for a property that is in a Euro currency country! When we requested to have the balance payment made in Euros we were notified that Holiday Lettings would not allow that. I'm sure it should be possible to book this property through some other website in Euros.
On to the review! The cottage has been very tastefully decorated in neutral colours. Diane has made every effort to provide everything that a holiday maker would need.. in fact it is almost a home away from home. Everything in the well equipped kitchen, including cutlery, utensils, oven etc are of good quality. There are a range of cleaning products that I have not seen available in any other holiday apartment/gite. The welcome bottle of wine was highly appreciated, as was the bowl of fruit.
There is a bookcase full of books, both fiction and tourist related, which I was immediately drawn to. Diane's husband very kindly dropped off a couple of walking sticks when he heard that I had fractured my ankle and was having difficulty walking. Those were appreciated, especially for the climb down the winding steps at 3 am.
The house is on three levels with the kitchen and toilet on the ground floor. The sitting room with its little balcony and the shower room are on the first floor, with the bedroom on the second floor. I spent many a pleasant evening on the balcony with a glass of wine and a book enjoying the village comings and goings.
The shower room was stocked with an assortment of hand soap, body gel and shampoos, even a powerful hairdryer. As I said, Diane has made every effort to make her guests comfortable.
The only thing we missed was having no television or internet to relax with when we were home. We ended up going into town to buy an internet connection and sim card. An internet connection is vital to be able to research an plan what to do the next day, or even to find local supermarkets and shops. I believe Diane is looking into this issue.
In general we would recommend this little house to anyone who does not have mobility problems or those who cannot face two floors of tricky steps in the middle of the night for a loo break because they would have trouble getting back to sleep... however book through a site that is in your home / bank account currency.
