Peppers Bluewater Resort
Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in Lake Tekapo
Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in a lovely 2 bedroom apartment which was spacious and had a great balcony. Beautifully presented and great full kitchen. However service was acceptable but not excellent. We locked our key in our room and had to get another from reception and you would think we had committed a crime. We also enquired as to why we had to fill in guest information each time as we had stayed several times before and were told that's just the way the booking system works. Certainly doesnt inspire return bookings, as you don't feel valued as frequent customer.

Kia ora MissCooper1,

Thank your for your review of Peppers Bluewater Resort.
I am disappointed we did not make you feel more comfortable when seeking a replacement key for your room, so please accept our humble apologies. We certainly appreciate that these things can happen, its not a big deal and I would like to think that our team are more than happy to help out.

In regards to filling out a registration card, it is always something we like to do. It provides a waiver for charges that you may incur during your stay with us, and it gives us the opportunity to ensure your details are still the same, or indeed whether you may have changed address, phone number or the like. Barring any changes, just a signature down the bottom is absolutely all we need and you're off and ready to enjoy what Lake Tekapo has to offer! It was without doubt not our intention to not make you feel valued as a return guest. We value your continued support of Peppers Bluewater Resort very highly, and we just want to make sure we have all your correct details.
Having said this, we can appreciate that your understanding of this is vital, and we could have done better to explain this and make your check-in far smoother.

Warm regards,

Andrew M Freak

The resort is quite a large property, really well set out and softly landscaped to fit in nicely with the beautiful Lake Tecapo. We were only there for one night, so booked into one of the hotel rooms, rather than a larger apartment. Whilst the room is nicely furnished and appointed and comes with a lovely bathroom, it was probably the smallest room I have ever stayed in. I had read previous comments on this site about how small the rooms were, but didn't think they could be that bad, but they were! There was literally only room to walk around the side of the bed...that was it! Once we'd brought our bags in, there was virtually no floor space left at all. So, whilst Peppers is very nice and Tecapo itself absolutely stunning, I'm giving this one a lower rating because of the ridiculously bijou room size!

Kia ora MattHP,

Thank you for your comments.
We regret that you found the standard hotel room to be too small for your needs, and we would have liked you to have had a far greater experience with us. We do endeavour to inform all guests that our standard hotel rooms are very small, and this is prominent across our public websites. They do fit a particular need for travellers who are looking for a stop n' go, with basic functionality. If you are looking for a more pronounced space, I would certainly recommend looking at our one, two and three bedroom villas as suits your needs. These are very spacious, and many offer the spectacular view of Lake Tekapo that our guests really savor.

We really appreciate your kind words about our resort and are glad that room aside, you seemed to genuinely enjoy your time here!! that's great to hear!

Many thanks,

The meals were way overpriced for the quality and quantity of the meal, even with an entrée many of us were left hungry. Our waiter had little professionalism and enthusiasm - Terrible service. We wont be making a special trip to eat at Peppers again. I'd rather have Fish and Chips on the side of the road.

There's not much choice of hotels in Lake Tekapo which probably accounts for the standard and value for money. A very small room with no view and poor facilities and noisy neighbours. The restaurant was expensive so we ate elsewhere. Not a great experience but the area is stunning.

Kia ora SxD,

Thank you for providing feedback about your recent stay.

Certainly we are disappointed, but respect your comments about your experience with us.
We do have a number of alternative accommodation styles, ranging up to our 3 Bedroom Lake View Villas which are very spacious indeed.

As a popular stopover destination, many of our guests do find our Standard Hotel Rooms to be functional for that purpose, but I would without doubt recommend upgrading to a larger suite to maximise the spectacular view on offer.

With thanks,

We were travelling with a tour and stayed one night at this resort. Check in was efficient and our bags were delivered to our room very quickly. We had a huge apartment which overlooked Lake Tekapo. It was extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean. The main plus point for us was the washing machine/dryer situated under the stairs. The hotel even offers complimentary washing powder. We really appreciated this facility.
Buffet breakfast was very good.
Would recommend this hotel especially to families as the rooms are spacious with excellent facilities.

We were booked here by our agent as a scenic stopover on the way from Queenstown to Akoroa.we had a good room 705 that overlooked the blue lake ,many did not, however, the key provided did not work , had to tramp back to get a replacement and the rooms are small glass boxes with big beds .If you like 8 large coach loads of tourists and a good few smaller buses then this "resort hotel" may be for you .The restaurant was not gourmet and attracted like everything else a 2 % credit card surcharge on the bill. Go over the road plenty of places to eat ,cheaper and no CC surcharge .if you want Wifi then it is $8 for an hour of low usage whereby to use 2 computers you had to log out in 15 minute chunks I.e worse than useless ,so next tariff is $20 for 24 hours with of course CC surcharge .I paid cash and left quickly after a very ordinary luke warm buffet breakfast along with the numerous other tourists staying in their boxes.Lake Tekapo is very pretty and a trip to nearby Mount John observatory is worth it, but an hour here is all you need ,do your homework pass though and avoid this place . the only plus for me was that's the staff were friendly, but Peppers will not be on my tick list again with this business model.

We have recently been to New Zealand and stayed here on our second night. There was some confusion as our travel agent had booked us by mistake into their sister hotel in Christchurch but Pete in Reception took everything in his stride and found us a room. Thank you.
Room was fantastic, the bed extremely comfortable (didn't want to get out of it). Views are specatular.
Food in the restaurant very good. Staff very friendly even when faced with an extremely rude customer who wanted their undivided attention all evening (not me).

Room Tip: I am sure all of the rooms are of the same high standard

Kia ora MazzyFrodsham,

Thank you so much! What a wonderful review! We are thrilled you had such a great time here, and I know Pete would really appreciate your very kind comments - he's a wonderful asset to our team and i'm glad he was able to be so helpful. I'm particularly pleased to hear that you enjoyed the bed so much as well, but hopefully it didn't stop you from getting outside to explore the amazing landscape that is Lake Tekapo!
It would be great to see you again in the near future, and thanks again for a lovely review!!
