“Nice but Steep”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

We stayed in a hotel room with wonderful lake view. Very spacious with bathtub and two sinks. However, one of the sinks were not working. Overall, ok, but steep price to pay. Reception was in training and stuffed up the rooms but was sorted out eventually.

We stayed here for just one night to visit the observatory on a night tour. First, we had booked 2 rooms and only one appered on their computer. They did upgrade us to a "villa" on the 2nd room. The regular rooms are tiny. They have everything you need, except room to walk around. Located near places to eat and sight seeing. Front desk staff appear to be young and inexperienced. Our "villa" room was OK but the beds felt like they needed to get new ones.

Room Tip: Villas are bigger than regular room. Also they include a sleeper sofa in living area.

Kia ora vacationON,

Thank you for your recent review of our resort.
We apologise for the issue you experience on check-in, but are glad this was able to be quickly resolved for you. We do have a very young reception group, but they are very passionate and driven, and are really enthusiastic about providing warm, genuine service to our guests. We are thrilled to be able have a number of staff who have grown up in the Mackenzie region, and have an affinity with this unique area.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Recently my family and I attend a family wedding, the Hotel room was correctly discribed as very small, but for an overnight stay perfect, clean tidy and well equipped with everything you would need. We had a great time until I went to pay, as the wedding was on we had a bar tab the night before which had a few drinks charged to it. On settling the account there was just a bar charge (fine) "can I please have a breakdown of this" not an unusal request you may think. I was told this was not possible I was surprised and asked well how does it get billed to the account then surely there are the charge sheets? Receptionist went and asked the F&B manager. No I could not see a breakdown. Come on that is crazy. Sort our your system Peppers. Staff didn't handle this well at all.

Kia ora QTOWNFI,

Thank you for recent review of our property, Peppers Bluewater Resort.
We hope that you had a great time at the wedding, and we appreciate your comments about the room itself. It is disappointed to hear that we were unable to be more helpful with the breakdown of the bill for you. This is certainly something we should have no issue performing, and I am sitting down with our team this morning to ensure we have these systems in place moving forward. We do apologise for any inconvenience we caused to you, but certainly appreciate you taking the effort to let us know.

Many thanks,

Walk across the street to the youth hostel - then down the hill to Lake Tekapo - view in spring is stunning: turquoise water, snow capped mountains, poppies were in full bloom (not there for lupines). The room was compact but clean, modern, met our needs (did not pay extra for view). Booked Earth & Sky trip to sky gaze, best breakfast and dinner views and food of whole trip at shopping area across and down the street.

Room Tip: Lake Tekapo is gorgeous - but as best views are across the street don't pay extra for the view h...

We stayed one night, personal trip (holidays) in the standard room, the tiny one, we was aware about there small size but they are enough for a 1 night stop, so I will not complain on this matter.
Too many little bad points to make it and enjoyable stay. I would not say that it was a bad experience but the experience was poor and it is clearly not a good value for money

Pro: nice design (but it is not new at all...) ...

Cons: - the bed matress was in a terrible state with springs damaged (out of their emplacement) but fortunatly in the middle and the side of the bed only... but it was surprising from such hotel I was not waiting such bad bedding even in a 1 star hotel.
- internet not working in the all place, no excuse, no indemnity offered (upgrade, late check out or at least a drink as compensation would have been welcomed)
- more than 4 hours the fix the damaged sink in the bathroom ( we asked first before leaving the room for
A 2 hours walk and a second.time after we came.back it was fixed when we came back)
- disapointing restaurant with nice menu "a la.carte" but we finally decided to eat elsewhere when we were told by the staff that portion are "really small"...
- some dirty places in the room (see the pictures: walls marked by bagages, some dust, bathroom door damaged by humidity...

Poor experience not good value for money

Again, I reiterate what the other reviewers have said. The standard room is tiny. But that was fine with us. We had a difficult time finding room for our bags but it's not their problem since it was us who didn't travel light. :) The problem we had was with their service. There wasn't a specific incident that I could point out. It's just that the receptionists weren't as helpful/friendly. When we asked about the internet service, about the breakfast and directions to christchurch....how they answered were kinda abrupt, not having eye contact, turning their backs and not smiling at all. I hope they can improve on that since we are paying customers. A little smile or explanation shouldn't be much of a burden for them.

Yes, I agree with everyone that the rooms are tiny. Very compact. But it was one of the best showers that we had the entire trip. The bed was comfortable, and the room was very clean. It was walking distance to the small town, and even to the Lake. We walked into town for breakfast, and it was enjoyable. We did not have any noise problems at all. And they had a free washer and dryer!
