“A cheap place to stay for a view of Lake Tekapo”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

This was just a overnight stop at a beautiful and interesting place and it would have been miles better if the sun had shone but the clouds were dramatic.

As for the hotel well what can you expect for the price in such an out of the way spot. Our room was shabby the bed not especially comfy but hey everything worked in the room and everything was clean. We had all the facilities to prepare our own breakfast including toaster and too our surprise the very shabby shower worked really well.

It was a struggle to lock the door but we had a balcony with a partial view of the Lake and there were really good laundry facilities.

We didn't eat at the hotel but it might have been better than the place we did eat.

Walking down to the laundry block I saw rooms that looked a whole lot smarter over looking the pool but expect they were a lot more expensive and the one we had served it's purpose fine. I've paid more for no better at chain hotels in the UK.

Room Tip: Better away from the road as there is some road noise.

The hotel location is the highlight of this property and they have a restaurant which seemed good.We spent 1 night in this hotel and the rooms are quite older style but comfortable. They have a swimming pool inside the hotel.we liked our stay with Godley as we needed a central location accomodation and they fitted our criteria.

The rooms of this hotel are on the side overlooking the road. Breakfast is very good & the room was very comfortable. Tekapo is a quaint little village which has a few shops adjacent to the hotel & quite a few eating places. There is also a lovely church with the statue of a collie dog nearby which was erected as a tribute to all collie dogs. The views from the church are stunning. Well worth a visit & stay.

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room if you have heavy luggage otherwise you need to climb stairs.

I obviously didn't read trip advisor before I booked but I did read it before we got there and I was horrified. We walked in and were greeted by just staring no friendly greeting. Then the girl on reception said her feet hurt so she took her shoes off to finish the check in. Great start. We then drove around to our room and walked in to the worst wet carpet gross smell. I instantly started sneezing. The room had no air we had to open the door which had an amazing view but tourists were walking right up to our door.It took a lot for me to stay. The room was so bad, there was a letter in the book saying there were new owners and they were going to update but surely they should do some simple things first. Like update the bedding, throw out the rubbish furniture that is not needed because people would only stay 1 or 2 nights. Lastly we were woken up at 8 with the cleaners being so loud.We wanted to leave anyway.

we had no choice but this hotel.
the location is superb, but the quality of this hotel is unbelievably low for its price.
it was like a prefab home.
there was a warning on the bathroom door that we should be aware that hotwater can run out if we take a shower for too long.
i have also stayed at the Lake Tekapo Holiday Park some years ago for (of course) much cheaper price, and the facility probably was much better there.

the next time i go to Lake Tekapo, i will make sure i will stay somewhere else.

This hotel is badly tired and needs a refurb. The beds were tired. The in room furniture was in a poor state of repair. The shower was worn out, the flooring tired. It was clean.

Room Tip: worn out, needs a refurb urgently

Hi,

I stayed there on a tour of the South Island (October 2008), for only over night and even then it was too much.
although Lake Tekapo is a lovely iconic NZ place to vist, you are far better off sleeping in your car or even camping out doors than staying at this place, Where to start?
-The door would not lock properly
-There was hole in the wall in the bathroom,
-The decore was horribly dated easily from 30+ years ago, from the phone/tv/drapes/furniture/drapes
-everything was grubby
-The hot watter kettle was leaking
-There was exposed electrical wiring under the desk,
-When i went to complain to the staff that the room was unacceptable and was there any other rooms possibly facing the lake, that i would even pay more for a decent room... they were polite, but said yes they knew of the numerous problems with the place and that it was dated ect. but no rooms were avalbile instead they, knocked $10 off the price of the room.

-The most disgusting thing about the place (speaking as a NZ'er), which mainly cateres for tourists, was that the New Zealand Flag outside the main entrance the flag was torn and still up, they could have easily replaced it with a $2 flag from the $2 shop.

so when i went back in a 2nd time to see the staff member, they were basically apathetic about it, and said yes there's a lot of room for improvment.

Maybey this place has improved over the years... maybey not

Room Tip: if you have a choice don't stay here, but if you do try and get a room facing the lake
