My wife and I stayed here for one night as part of a weekend getaway from Christchurch. The lodge (B&B) is located along the hillside with a very nice view of the lake and mountains. The surroundings are quiet and beautiful. Our hosts were very friendly and pleasant. We decided to have dinner in town (MacKenizie's...which is one of our favs) but there was an option to have dinner in the lodge. If the breakfast we had the following morning was any indication of the quality of food on offer...we probably should have stuck around for dinner! We have stayed in Lake Tekapo on previous occasions and have always been a bit dissapointed in the available hotels/motels. By far, this is the nicest accomodation available. It's not cheap but it is worth the money. We look forward to staying there again.

Many thanks Mike and thrilled you enjoyed your stay here. We would love for you to dine next time - just give us prior notice. We use local merino, venison, salmon and can also cater to any dietary requirements given time to prepare. Alistair's lemon tart has become legendary....
I agree, we are not cheap but we offer a high quality experience. If you had to pay additionally for the beer, wine, gourmet breakfast, laundry and WIFI, then the base room rate is very competitive. (We prefer to make our price all inclusive rather than negotiate and confirm extras at checkout).
The first snow has fallen and we woke to the winter wonderland although the bright sunshine may deal to that quickly! The fires are burning! Cheers, Stephanie

My wife and I stayed at Lake Tekapo Lodge for 3 nights 13-15 May 2013. The location was chosen due its proximity to the Mt John astronomical observatory where I planned to do some astrophotography.

For those less interested in astronomy the whole region has fabulous vistas of the southern alps with lake Tekapo itself a beautiful location.

The lodge is a very high standard B&B providing extremely comfortable en-suite accomodation. The owners Stephanie and Alistair were very wecolming and as qualified chefs not only were the cooked breakfasts excellent but they also offer evening dinning as an additional option, something we took advantage of and very much enjoyed for our final evening there.

This is a 5 star facility with prices to match, but worth every penny (or should I say cent). It is definitely a location that I recomend and will not hesitate to revisit if I travel to NZ again.

We had a wonderful stay at Lake Tekapo Lodge. We were upgraded to the Tekapo Room which had a beautiful view of the lake. Staphanie and Alistair made us feel very welcome from the time we pulled up until we left. The lodge has a lovely guest lounge were we could have a glass of wine in front of the fire before we went to dinner. Alistair cooked the most amazing meal for us and the best lemon tart we have ever had, breakfast was also very enjoyable, just a shame we couldn't eat it all. We will difinately recommend the lodge and are already looking at going back sooner than later.

Hosts were welcoming and knowledgeable despite having been there only a short time.
We were upgraded to a room with a view as it was not occupied even though it was high season and they could have sold the more expensive room fairly easily on the day.
Fantastic views from the room and at breakfast.
We had an additional member of our party who was staying at another (less nice) accommodation, he was welcomed and joined us at dinner.
Dinner was delicious and not even spoiled by the incessant Jame Cullum music.
Over all a really professional and friendly B+B.

Lake Tekapo Lodge is a treat for all the senses!

The decor throughout is a an extremely clever fusion of contemporary New Zealand art, English and French antiques and sumptuous soft furnishings. Stephanie most definitely has an incredible talent with interior design. It looks amazing as is, but Stephanie has plans for new wallpapers, carpet and bathrooms.... I guess I'll just have to come back for another visit once it's done!

Alistair's talent is evident in the kitchen - he whips up cooked breakfasts which leave many Kiwi cafes in the dust. For a real taste of New Zealand fine-dining, request a dinner - you're likely to have local salmon, venison or lamb. Delish!!

Both Steph and Al are natural hosts providing total five-star hospitality with warm, down-to-earth delivery. Will be recommending this to one and all for a truly five-star boutique accommodation experience.

Cheers Adele! So thrilled you "get" us - we are a bit different in our style but I guess that reflects our personalities. It is a real pleasure to share our beautiful and precious art and furnishings with appreciative guests. From your other reviews of Tekapo it sounds as if you really did enjoy your Mackenzie experience - come back for more! bit of a cold snap at the moment but the light and vistas amazing.... and I'm ploughing through that firewood! We loved our night at Lake Tekapo Lodge. We were Stephanie & Alistair's only guests on the night we were there, and they upgraded us to a lake view room. The bed was sublime - large, comfortable and lovely bedding. The room was decorated to a very high standard with lots of lovely kiwi art on the walls. Breakfast was probably the best I've ever eaten in a B&B.

Stephanie & Alistair were fabulous hosts, and even provided dettol and plasters for when my husband fell over on his morning run. They also made an excellent recommendation for our evening meal and made reservations for us. It turned out too that Stephanie, having worked in the wine trade previously, knew people in common with me (even though we're from London), which makes the world a very small place indeed!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful night or two away in beautiful Tekapo. You will definitely enjoy your stay if you book here.
