I like the location of this cottage the most. You can walk to the lake and visit Church of the Good Shephard and a bronze statue of Collie sheepdog. This cottage is the best value for money choice for one whom would like to stay a night in Lake Tekapo.

Great litte cottage, with mountain views, only few minutes walk to lakefront along pathway. Very comfy bed, fridge and 2 electric tops to cook on. Air con which we needed as it was cool at night. Lovely patio to sit on and watch the mountains at the evening. A delightful place and would recommend. Spotlessly clean and lovely linen.

Room Tip: we had cottage suitable for 2 persons, and just lovely.

I had attempted a booking for the Honeymoon Suite in mid-Jan 2012, but the AA site had shown, incorrectly, that it was available for 2 consecutive nights. The owners offered us The Pines suite with the adjoining kitchen at a slightly discounted rate as an alternative.
The surroundings were lovely and serene, not many people wandering past, the lupins (pretty pink/purple/lilac flowers) were putting on their show and it was a short, peaceful stroll to the Lake - which I took advantage of for some early morning photography.
The unit was tidy and clean, there were enough pillows and towels for our needs and I could tell that the building's insulation was up to scratch and ideal for summer or winter vacationing.
The kitchen suited our needs perfectly, so far as reducing cost by being able to prepare our own food, enabling us to avoid expensive tourist-centric eateries and restaurants.
The only thing I noticed that was a little bit annoying, was that one of the deck chairs was a little broken - no biggie though.

Room Tip: The Pines was fine. I wanted peace and didn't want to be staying too close to other lodgers and The Pines was set just off to the side of the other cottages, ideal for my needs.

We stayed in Rowan Cottage. Owners were really nice. Owner described it as "batchy" over the phone but really I was disappointed in state of furniture. Wouldn't take much to replace ripped settee- covers over exposed foam etc don't work for me. It was $180 for the night which was not cheap- value wise $100 and I may expect that sort of 'batchy" . Really a bit of replacement furniture is needed. Linen was lovely and clean and overall place was clean , just furniture needing replaced. Stayed at Copthorne Hotel for not much more and it was impeccable. Sorry but would not stay again.

Room Tip: Sleep out rooms a bit scary for young children.

Our family stayed in The Pines cottages. It's a good set up for two families being two studios with en suites and queen plus singles beds, and they share a central kitchen. Overall it was nice. Had a pleasant non-lake view, over a park that was in full flower with purple and blue lupins. The cottage has a balcony along the front and there was a small outdoor table and two chairs at one end. Both units have TV and heating. and the kitchen was generally well appointed, but overall the place does need more attention to detail, especially when it costs $260 a night, which is the same as we paid at the Copthorne in Queenstown for a full service apartment with lake views. There were not enough plates, glasses or mugs in the kitchen for the number of people that could sleep there - but at soon as I asked, extras were supplied. Pillows were poor quality and there were not enough. The bed was comfy. Furniture is patchy in quality - some pieces are fine, others damaged. Curtains didn't fit well and the shower in our unit had good pressure but squirted strangely. The whole place just needed a bit of TLC! The owners are nice people and I'm sure they could attend to these details and raise the standard to suit the price point.

Room Tip: Expect to pay more for less - Lake Tekapo is not good value for money.
